This is just a curiosity question. The rotary club offers flags for residents in a very special program each year. I believe the cost is 40.00 a year for 7 or 8 flags (not sure my figures are correct, but I think that's right). They come out and put the flags in your yard and then pick them up again on each holiday. It's completely hassle free. We have been participating in this program for a few years now and we love it. We just wonder why there aren't more people doing it? The flags look beautiful flying in the yards and it's such a simple way to show our support for the troops. Yes, I am biased since I have a son serving, but it's still nice, don't you think?

Start selling the Mexican flags in RC and sales will increase.

I know lots of people harbor resentment such as yours. I have absolutely no answers though. I do wish more people participated in the flag program because the boys that are serving overseas are weary. They need support more than ever before and while it may seem a small thing, it still means a lot. I sent pictures of main street with the flags from the last holiday to my son in Afghanistan and he really loved it. :)

I think it most likely has to do with getting the word out to people. I am pretty sure the majority of folks don't know this is available and when, where and how to sign up for it.

That may be true. Anyone can sign up at the construction office right beside the tire shop on I30. It's between the tire shop and hotel. They are the nicest people. Thanks for your input!

Would that be the caboose or train building that houses Gilbert Construction?

They are really nice people.

Was not aware of the Flag Program. I bought large flag buntings (swags)from the city several years ago.

We do so appreciate the older folks that place the flags and pick them up along main street, and we tell them so every chance we get.

Yes, I couldn't remember the name on the building, but it is the caboose building - Gilbert Construction. I believe Mike Gilbert heads up this program. It's really a good deal for the money, especially since they store the flags, deliver them, and pick them up each holiday. It made my day this morning to head outside and see my flag in my yard. :) Reminds me of my kiddo...doing his job.

I was simply posting a question, and yet you people make it into a joke. I don't consider the flag a joke - or the right to fly it. And I did not intend to make this subject the recipient of such disrespect. In California, students took the Mexican flag and placed it above the American flag on the flag pole. Is that what you would prefer? There should be no other flag flying in this country on Veteran's Day except the American Flag. In fact, it should be the only national flag flown here ever. And that's what I honestly believe.

I have been here since '03 and this is the first time I have heard of this program. My guess would be people in my subdivision don't know about it either since there are no flags flying around here.
Thanks for the info.

RC Mom of 2 - thanks for your interest. Maybe if we spread the word, we can see more flags out on the holidays....

With Obamanation running our country get used to it. I agree with you on which flag should be the only national flag flown, But with this PC world we live in anything goes.

It may be the world we live in, but I certainly don't have to agree with it. Especially not with our boys fighting overseas.....That flag means much, much more than just stars and stripes. They carry it with them everywhere they go over there. They live with the flag flying as they march into the Afghan mountains or Iraqi deserts and they ride home with the flag - whether in their packs or on the planes....or draped on their coffins. It represents everything they believe in....and our commander in chief damn sure needs to remember it.

We need to contact the RC Herald Banner and have an article written about this display of National Pride in Royse City.

Think of all the times your flag could be used,
Veterans Day, Labor Day, July 4th of course, Remembrance of 911,and any darn time you want to, cause this is the United States Of America, and we have the freedom to display our love for Country.

God bless Gilbert Construction for creating this opportunity. Hey the article could recognize them for their efforts as well.

God bless The Rotary members as well for the time they take to display flags on our main street every year. They should be thanked in the article as well.

Man, this might just generate some positive information flow and feedback for Royse City.

Does anyone else know of a business or individual that does something good behind the scenes with no thought of reward...the citizens of RC could start a "Salute a Good Citizen" program to recognize these good folks.

Goodness...I've got tons of ideas floating in my head now, just wish we had a Citizens Group organized to implement our great ideas.

Blessings to all!!

Gilbert Construction acts in conjunction with the Rotary Club for this program, I believe. And I agree, we need to get some sort of advertising out there about this opportunity for citizens to display the flag. We have a flag in our yard through this program for many holidays and occasions each year - and I look forward to every one of them. :)

Seriously? You think providing a service through the Rotary Club to give citizens an opportunity to have flags placed in their yard on specific holidays is a business advertisement? Have you seen anything related to this advertised by Gilbert Construction? No. You haven't. That's because it is something they handle for the Rotary and it's not related to their business. They do not profit from any of it. Must you be so cynical? These are tremendously nice people and for a very small fee (which does not go to them), they store the flags, keep them in excellent condition, drive around just after dawn and place them in everyone's yard who has signed up. Then, they drive around again and pick them up. It's meant to be a positive, supportive thing for our country. What is wrong with you?

Frank whomever you are, your in the wrong thread my friend, if your looking to attack.

We are talking about displaying the American Flag, and finding ways to let other residents know that this flag program exist.

I have nothing to do with Gilbert Construction, I just happened to know who the poster was referring to. It is not about business advertising.

Are you against displaying the flag, or just against business owners. Either way that's just sad.

We are trying to create a positive feeling in RC.
