WTF kind of a headline is that! " 5-year-old on bike hits tractor-trailer" Does the YDR have an editor that can read? or is everybody on the staff this incompetent?

That is not what the eyewitness is saying. She turned right into his truck. It may never be known why she turned into the truck.

Sad story. It is really dangerous for a 5 year old to be riding her bike on the road even with her mom riding behind her.

size doesn't dictate who hit who.

didn't you ever have a bug hit your windshield?

Hopefully the girl recovers

I agree.... The mother was pulling her sons in a carriage on top of that.... I saw the road they were traveling on and it looked like a dangerous road for even a single adult to ride a bike on..... I hope the poor little girl recovers.

The article states "The girl was riding north, but on the southbound shoulder of the road, police said." I was always taught that ride with the traffic and walk against the traffic. So if I'm reading this correct, they were riding on the wrong side of the road....not that that's any excuse. And I agree...if the girl turned into the rear axel of the truck, it's not the truckers fault.

Ok, here is the real deal...the child was riding on the wrong side of road but the thought process was so that the child could see oncoming traffic better. The truck if you look at the pictures was doing the safe thing and yeilding a large right away to the bikes. However the child as all children are at that age was weaving or swerving -not intentionally- but more from trying harder to stay to the side of the roadway as the larger vehicle approached. At some point the child probably turned to look to see if her mother was still there and in doing so turned toward the truck. The truck had cleared the child but as the child turned she struck the rear wheels of the trailer...very very sad...Certainly NOT the truckers fault. Certainly a misjudgement on the part of a 5 y/o's mother. Please do not hate the mother...all parents make choices and all parents are exposed to daily events that in others minds are dangerous, but for them it is a way of life. This particular area has alot of conservative people (not just Amish) who choose to lead a simpler life, they regularly use bicycles instead of cars. It is their way of life. There are kids who are placed in harms way daily more intentionally then a bike ride with their mother. These kids are living in the streets because no one cares, with drug addicted parents, alcoholic parents, parents who leave them home alone, parents who can not clean up after themselves and the child is left to live in deplorable conditions. Accidents will ALWAYS happen and it is horrific and very very sad, but you can stop and realize it was an accident. I feel for this family, the truck driver, everyone involved, EMS, fire, hospital staff everyone. It was an accident. This is different then the anger that comes when a child is riding in a car without a seatbelt/carseat and is killed. Or a child that is burned to death as a result of their parents being high and not getting them out of the burning house in time...

the way i see it the driver had several options.being experienced-especially on that road with that corner that hes taken for years he knows to not even pass a flea at that road.wwhat were the true factors of thye accident.given everyone was so concentrated on th fact of the lillte girl getting hit-what a terrible lose and im sorry for that-but if you look @ the positioning of the truck (see news cast pictures-and give at that ime say a car-hint hint-wasnt coming around the corner,he would of swung wider to miss the little girl.as a driver and a car would of been coming to his left natural reaction would be to veer the tractor over quickly has the trailer follows the unit- thus hittingthe little girl. another factor in the matter that gets me irrate is-the driver in less that 3 weeks is back into his truck, same company, with no repurcutions to his actions.fault of not i dont ever think i could get back into a car let alone my unit and trailer.after all he did go to one therapy session and says he feels better had talked about it???!what is wrong with this picture????what about a wrongful death charges against the driver.i guess i have a concious and cant understand how he can go about his merry life.

Take things gently otherwise you'll end up running round in ever-decreasing circles. Yes, you may still have a lot to do but you won't achieve very much if you develop butterfingers or waste all your energy on a full-blown panic. Maybe you could rope someone into helping you, rather than doing your Cinderella act in the kitchen while everyone else takes it easy?
