All Vigo county schools should implement a dress code. Thus creating a more positive learning environment. If every child arrived at school in a uniform ( white/blue shirts with dark pants and mid length skirts) each student would be considered equal to their peers. Parents and or guardians would be responsible for encouraging their childs full participation. After all school is to be a learning environment not a social club! After school activities would not be included.

My children are out of school now, but when they were in school I had a hard time keeping up with the $100 shoes,$75 jeans, and the like. Understand though, we were not poor but come from the hard working middle class. My daughter especially was chastised on quite a few occasions for not wearing the latest fashions. What a bunch of bullcrap that was. To her it was everything and did make it hard to go to school every day. With the economy the way it is now I feel doing this would take the pressure off alot of families.

Need to teach your kids that they are going to school to learn, its not a fashion show, if you dont start them off with the high priced crap they wont miss it, and if they hang with kids that do wear it, and make comments if others dont, then they need new friends. If they wear shit where thier but hangs out, its your fault for buying it. Come on people, the problem is that everyone wants to be thier kids friends, instead of being parents!!

Dress codes do work and they are less expensive. Our kids wore khaki or navy slacks with navy, light blue or cranberry polo or button down shirts. Warmer months they could wear knee length shorts. Plain white tennis shoes and they were good to go. My kids got 3 outfits each. I did a load of laundry midweek. Our Dollar Stores stocked these and so did the mall stores. We even had a resale shop that catered to the uniforms. It levels the field when they are dressed similarly and gets their focus off their clothes.

Behavior also improves. Prevents gang activity Decreases distractions Builds discipline , self respect, community, & a sense of pride. I've read the pros and cons of thus issue and feel the benefits outway the cons. One huge problem that public schools have come up against is the students "rights" to self representation & individuality. Which I feel us a weak argument . They are going to school to use their brains and I don't feel that uniforms cross that line. MO only.

Get the kids up in the mornings with no hassles of picking out something to wear thus, leaving more time to catch breakfast!!:)

I have to agree, the uniform dress code would knock out a lot of petty competitions and bring students to a common ground. Their so called individuality isn't really. They only follow what they see someone else doing. Ask them to dress or wear their hair differently than the other kids and what what happens. None if them would color their hair 14 shades of purple if no one else was doing it.

You're all a bunch of idiots. Your kids are whining and complaining because someone gives them hell for not wearing a pair of 100 dollar Jeans? Tell them to grow some balls, tell the people giving them a hard time to fuckoff, and develop a sense of individuality and stop worrying what some group of idiots think. I gotta say that when I went to school I never really put much thought into what I was wearing. I think I remember getting something said to me about not wearing jnco Jeans once, were big for a while, and I didn't bat an eye at it. Just told the idiot I have better things to spend my money on that some pair of jeans some idiot designer slapped a logo on and charges three times as much for.

I don't think the little thugs in making would be so tough if they had to wear khaki pants and a polo shirt. If they don't like it let them home school via Internet programs. We won't have this "send your kids to school" set up long. With the costs of maintaining a building and grounds, teacher salaries, insurance, bullying and of course the safety issues Internet programs at home will be the school room of the very near future.

Your right, home schooling is the future, just enough teachers to run the system, no superintendants, no janitors, no puttin up with the little darlins in person at all. Sad world we are making!

Yes, man is making a sad world. Sometimes I believe the Amish have it down pat. They take care of their own They provide for themselves They home school They do not waste electric or water They teach the holy book All of the Amish I have witnessed are self supportive. To live as the Amish do would be extremely hard for most folks. Sometimes though, less is more! I can't call them "backwards kind of people" They know the land, and are content in it., most if all, they are not corrupted by money or greed.

The Amish do seem to have a better way of life and higher standards. When our power goes off we are lost. We aren't prepared when our heating systems fail. The Amish mothers are able to be at home with their children, who by the way seem much less hyperactive than "English" children. They provide so much more of their food while we depend on the grocery store.
