Now there is an anomoly. The answer is none. I will go thru each bar and tell why it sucks.

Show-mes is for your younger crowd mostly so it is repulsive with its lack of intelligent people that are into conversation. But if you want google- eyed perferts to chat with, this is your place.

Cooper Bar-nice people, nice staff, nice location, but highly targeted by the THPD for DUI's. They wait like a hawk and swoop down to "get you" the minute you take off. They do this because most people that frequent the Cooper Bar are goal oriented and intelligent with conversation.

Terminal-Ok, not great. Nothing exciting to do. Food average. Overall a bla rating.

Blukatt-reputation for not paying its workers, for which many have already quit or left. Also, many serious fights have originated there.

Verve-closest bar almost rated to be best. Nice decor, nice bartenders, good rotation of original bands on college circuit. Can be difficult to get a drink when busy because of no waiters. Had to wait 45 minutes once to get a drink.

Ambros's-This is the place to go if you wish to meet the most low life scum in the planet. The food really sucks and the nightlife offers psycho's, scanks, and idiots. Don't waste your time.

Chain bars-applebees etc. Bland in approach and should be made illegal.

Northstar-dive bar with fights likely.

TK's- funny place that puts itself off as a sports bar, then has Karoake on Fridays so that you cannot watch sports, and loud bands on Saturday. Too far out east in the city. Rude bartenders.

Conversation Bar. Too dark, too freakish. If you are into the occult, this bar is for you.

Simmrells: The ultimate bar for the lowest human trash and scum of the city. Bathrooms have live maggots and bacteria that you can actually see. This is probably the most obvious food place that needs to be shut down by the food inspectors.

The Cabin: Too small. Too crowded when a band in there. Should be called "the sardine bar"

6th Ave: Nude women. enough said.

Wagon Wheel: Rough dive bar with many fights.

Rafters-Karoake bar. No food, outdated decor.

T's lounge-dark bar, ugly bar. Good place to get murdered in.

Charlies-nice bar. Small in nature. Good people
and good times. 2nd in almost best.

Why I go to Indy and Bloomington is that I crave high energy scene but not crazy bar scene. Terre Haute has way to many Legions, VFWs, etc. I like to dance, have intelligent conversation, and meet high caliber people. I can only find that in Indy or Bloomington, Indiana.

Sonkas-Nice bar, good food, nice atomsphere, and good people. Only problem is lack of entertainment and a dance floor. Ranked 3 closest to the best bar in Terre Haute.

4th Quarter-Concrete floor, old, musty, smells of urine and other offensive smells. No food. Somewhat noted for fights and ditzy bartenders.

Zimmars-Gay bar. Good dance floor. Only problem. I am not gay. No food. High drink prices.

Archies-nice neighborhood bar. Outdated decor, nice deck. Best place to hang out at for good conversation without the threat of police nailing you as you leave. Problem; poor entainment.

An above poster contrasted Terre Haute to Bloomington in terms of night life. Let me expound on that:

In Terre Haute "Sports Bar" means that the television behind the bar is turned to ESPN. In Bloomington "Sports Bar" means indoor half court b-ball, outdoor volley ball, games, contests and multible live sports broadcasts.

In Terre Haute "Dance Bar" means a few of the tables have been moved to one side and if you are lucky there is a garage band playing. Otherwise there is a juke box or primitive sound system. In Bloomington "Dance Bar" means a large room devoted to dancing. Live regional if not national level bands and on slow nights a DJ operating a professional sound and light system.

All of the Terre Haute bars are copies of each other, places to sit and swill beer with only minor differences. The restaurants around here are the same way. In Bloomington each bar tries to be different from the others. You can find live music, quiet conversation, drunk college girls or good food at different places that each have their own identity.

There are a lot of very rich business people in Terre Haute.

With that being said, nobody has stood up to the plate so to speak and built a quality bar or nightclub. The reason being is that Terre Haute people are one of the most cheapest people on the planet!

In a town where the drafts are a quarter to a dollar, same with wells even on the week-ends, how does one recoup his investment on cheapskates like that? ShowMe's is full of $1 draft drinkers, free refill coke drinkers, and water drinkers. Terminal is full of $1 well drinkers all weekend long.

Nobody is going to invest a dime in Terre Haute nightlife as long as there's no money out there to be spent at their establshments.

So everyone out there "rating" the bars in Terre Haute - build one that you think you would like to frequent and see how well you do attracting paying customers.

There are alot of rich people here in TH but, if you think a little deeper, they own 5000 to over15000 sq. ft. Of home too. They don't have to go out to the Barrrs. They do it in the comforts of their own homes. ; can't say that I blame them either! There is no threats of being pulled over and arrested.

I agree with you 100%. The Terre Haute bars are killing each other with crazy non-profit markups. This is a factor in the low quality ratings of Terre Haute bars. A better question might be how come Bloomington and Indianapolis bars have much higher ratings. Do you think it is correlative to higher capita incomes? I think so. The Terre Haute bar scene needs a Federal Bail out or just close them down.

I am a very successful self made business man in Terre Haute, 2 homes, beautiful cars, single..... and I contribute each weekend to the bars and night clubs in this town.
I wouldn't start my own, mainly because of the people of this small poor city and no one has the money to make a place a success.

I have many friends... most which are females, and we are the entertainment every place we enter. But I suppose its mainly because people love to hang with me and my beautiful ladies. So maybe, I could make each place a better place just by being there, instead of opening a new one??

Going to the Blue Bird in Bloomington this Saturday to see high quality live music, big dance floor, multiple bars under one roof, and fun people. How come this area is so cheap and cannot match this?
