What could my Great Uncle have been doing in Termo in 1930's?

My great uncle Richard Park who emigrated from England around the turn of the last century lived in many parts of the U.S.and had lots of different occupations..Amongst old documents I found an envelope addressed to him at a P.O. Box in Termo , California. I guess this would have been in the 30's. I wonder if anybody has any idea of what he could have been doing there at that time? I'm thinking that was one of the places where he may have been a prospector or miner.
Thanks in anticipation of some suggestions.

Yes their are old mines here I bet he was a prospector
