The republican party needs a viable candidate. Gingrich comes closest. RINO Romney is a failed one term governor with business experience & no D.C. experience. The House voted overwhelmingly yesterday to reprimand House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and order him to pay an unprecedented $300,000 penalty, the first time in the House's 208-year history it has disciplined a speaker for ethical wrongdoing.

The ethics case and its resolution leave Gingrich with little leeway for future personal controversies, House Republicans said. Exactly one month before yesterday's vote, Gingrich admitted that he brought discredit to the House and broke its rules by failing to ensure that financing for two projects would not violate federal tax law and by giving the House ethics committee false information.

"Newt has done some things that have embarrassed House Republicans and embarrassed the House," said Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.). "If [the voters] see more of that, they will question our judgment."

Paul is NOT an isolationist. He is against un=declared wars. Why are we in Afghanistan, Egypt, etc...Why are we providing armies to other countries with American tax $'s? Ron Paul is always slammed by people on his foriegn policy. What is Ob's foriegn policy? Paul doesn't want the U.S. throwing tax dollars at indecisive events. In case you haven't heard. We are broke! I agree with you about not being the world's police force, although we need to keep up relations with other countries. I don't agree about marijuana. I am old enough to know that it has its problems.

I think that they have done such a rotten job at curbing the use of illegal drugs that in order to get rid of the cartels violence and influence they should regulate it to get a better handle on it. I also don't think that if it was legalized that people who wouldn't use it illegally would NOT use it legally. Just an opinion. Prohibition, like the drugs, was a bloody and violent business until it was legalized.

I'm curious - what is your opinion of what would happen with the Mexican cartels if marijuana is legalized. I don't know enough about it to come up with an educated opinion.

I would think they would now (finally) have to deal with the US Government instead of organized crime. Their product would no longer be worth the inflated black market prices and they would go out of business. Thus ending violence that was created by the failed war of drugs.

If it was legalized and regulated it would certainly take the wind out of their sails. People would or could buy it from authorized sources. Do you think the cartels would just go away and not fight for what they had? It seems like they would be very angry about losing all those millions of $$$$$. I don't know what they would do, but they would certainly try to do something. Your opinions please.

I agree. I think that is also why the establishment is markedly ignoring Newt Gingrich - hoping he will just go away. I don't know what kind of president Gingrich would make, but he knows his stuff. He could debate Obama and win every debate hands down. He has been around Washington so long he knows all the details. Obama came out of nowhere and the short time he was in Washington, he wasn't really there (voted "present" most of the time).

They would likely follow the past of least resistance to funding their criminal activities. Are they going to stop being organized crime - likely no. But they will no longer have a very lucrative revenue stream to fund their activities. After prohibition was repealed the organized crime that had formed redirected their efforts to gambling, prostitution, and drugs. Taking drugs out of the equation would likely push their activities back down to Mexico because of the logistics in gambling and humans. That's not to say that human trafficking wont be an issue because it IS an issue. Somehow I think we will be less likely to "tolerate" this kind of border infraction as we have been willing to allow the cartels to "smuggle" their goods currently.
