Finally a group of parents who realize that La Mirada High is a football school and can be so much more. There was one principal who knew that sports would always be around and his emphasis was on academics...but he was let go because of politics.
With years and years of bright, motivated students leaving because of LMHS...it will be a wonderful thing if the emphasis was on academics.
Do not expect the board to help on this matter..they have turned a blind eye after hiring all new administrators that still do not seem to get it, the board knows what is going on with the administration but will not do anything about it.
So, I praise the parents who are stepping.
I remember when a sports program was going to be closed and parents (many, many parents) demanded the board to change their minds put pressure on them, the board backed down. But, never have parents (many, many parents) approached the board demanding that academics at LMHS became a priority.
Once again, way to go parents.

There is going to be big changes withing the next two years and Phflanzer's had his hand in it all along. dont be suprised to see Benton's principal moving to LMHS. There is a take over coming on that will change our school forever. Staff we've loved forever will be let go. The sports program will be cut to make way for bogus arts programs and dollars meant to be spent on our students education will suddenly dissapear. An investigation will show abuse of funds from the group that has been taking funds from grant money meant for all students but used only on a select few. when this change begins you better rally together parents or get your child the hell out of LMHS. I am in contact with the ACLU regarding this matter and they are going to investigate this principal for charging her elementary school studens to participate in extra curicular activities when she was at La Pluma. Also going to be investigated is Benton's budget. How do they spend 100 grand on their magnent program and Hutchinson can fund theirs? Big Big questions that need answers. Protect your childs right to equal opportunity learning.

What's wrong with charging students to participate in extra curricular activities? If it's optional and outside of the school day I don't see a problem.

Wow, these sound like serious accusations. I hope this all gets cleared before new administration takes over. There has to be a balance between sports and performing arts. It can't be all one sided. Kids need to be able to choose. Who are the select few your refering to that have been given grant funds but not others? What area? Just curious since you put it out there.

....out of curiosity, did they really get 100 grand to spend on the magnet program and are parents aware of this? Also, what does the magnet program entail? Is it strictly arts? I'm a bit confused?

Parent who is watching what?? Principal at Benton was a HS principal in Texas and her school was State Champions in Football in Texas that is really saying something. What are you basing your remarks on? ACLU, what the hell do they have to do with anything? Magnet schools are doing fabulous things all over the state and allow students to pursue other avenues of education. In education today you must compete with other districts for students which=funding. Paying for after-school activities is somehow against the law? My kids went to Washington DC, Science Camp, and Disney World in Basketball, and they paid for all of it. Now it is a crime? Sports in HS has not been free for years, and receive virtually no funding from the district, so what are you talking about they will take money away from sports at LMHS? It is virtually impossible to spend education funds "illegally" you must go through so many hoops at NLMUSD to spend any funds with many layers of over site, not to mention state audits. Not sure what you are "watching" but whatever it is it is not Benton or LMHS.

LOL "It is virtually impossible to spend education funds illegally" what country, hell planet are you from? Funds are misappropriated all the time. Do you honestly believe that the board members are all honest politicians, and yes they are politicians. And go check it out before you judge, "parent whos watching" just might know something, because Benton has funds and lots of them and a Hutchinson teacher is having to fund projects out of her own pocket to be reimbursed sometime later this year, hopefully. How can one school have so much and the other not. If you look, when principal of Benton was in transition from La Pluma to Benton she was on payrole at Adult School purchasing thousands and thousands of dollars in supplies for Benton. And no surprise as to why, her son is one of those select students that have had funds spent on them taking away from other students who deserve to have an equal education. People wake up, there is a group of students who since kindergarten has had an enormous amount of money spent on them. And I didn't hear "parent whos watching" say the world illegal (although the state of california sure does). What I hear is "parent whos watching" is saying that all student should be equal. Program should not be free just because mom is principal or dad is on the board, hell look at what they vote to pay themselves, they could afford to pay for these programs. Why are other students charged for things when these students, who can afford to pay, don't! And I bet "parent whos watching" is right, Michelle Green's son will be transitioning to the high school and I bet she will too! Don't you find it odd that for just one year La Pluma had a sixth grade class. Coincidentally this sixth grade class was the same group that's been together since Kindergarten. I also wonder how a teacher goes from getting her degree from an online course to a full time position (NO SUBSTITUTING for her) as the head of a middle school science department and a member of the NSTA? There are many teachers trying to get full time positions at NLMUSD schools but have to wait years. OH and wait her student was in that group too. I sure this is just all coincidental, right?

Yes. I have the expenditures. All the info is available, you just have to know where to look. 100 grand and they could afford a bus to get their 30 cheerleaders to the final sports tournament last year. The money could have come from the same budget. And no, parents have no idea whats going on with that VAPA program and how it was started. Its criminal what this handful of parents have been doing and the benefits their children have had compared to the rest of the student body. All you have to do is follow the parents history and look into what their kids have been doing in school from 2007/2008 the La Pluma PTA and ELS to the current incoming LMHS PTA members and ELS as well as principal assignments and school board members during same time frame. Smoke and mirrors to the rest of us but private education for this handful of students.

La Pluma had a sixth grade class for two years. Three other schools also had a sixth grade class. Norwalk schools receive far more money than La Mirada schools. Check the board minutes for how much is allocated to each school. It is all there. I think parents like you should get involved and change things if you think they are not right! But I guess it is easier to throw out baseless comments on some forum than actually participate in your child's education! If you aren't part of the solution.....

Yes, I am in the know. Ive been following these students for five years now. I mispoke when I said phlanzer is behind ALL of this. He is definately involved and your right, his loyolties do lie with the principal at Benton. They both have students involved in the same group who have had private education instructors paid for by the parents who paid to take after school classes. The same group whose parents took over La Pluma PTA, then Benton and are now coming onto the high school PTA. These same parents who donated PTA funds to pay for the classes and instructors only their students had available to them, during the course of a regular school day. The same parents and students who where in the special "leadership" or "acamedy" classes that formed the "6th grade" class at La Pluma. But I dont need to tell you this "sad". You know exactly what Im talking about. The truth always comes out. And this one is going to in a big way.

Adult school does not even receive "thousands and thousands" in supplies. " what country, hell planet are you from?" One that believe in participation in the government process and who allows parent to participate in their schools, choices they make and encourages them to get involved! Oh yeah and "believes in innocent until PROVEN guilty. Again, if you have FACTS get them out there, if you are not happy with how your school is being operated, get involved or better yet get on the school board as one of the parents you refer to had the courage to do!

Too many of us sit back and let things happen and then all we do is complain, rather than stand up and do something about it! But, then we would have to leave the couch and actually do something.

If there is a known parent group, part of the PTA, that has taken funds for only a group of kids, their own kids, then have them investigated and brought up on charges. Report them to the national PTA and state education overseers.

You are correct, the adult school did not receive thousands and thousands in supplies yet they were charged for them. Fact

Parents cant get involved in something they dont know exists. The other thing is even if the information is out there, the majority of parents either dont know what to do about it, are intimidated by other parents or administration, dont have the time, encounter language barriers, or simply dont care. Fact

I cant remember the last time I actually sat on my couch. Fact

Exactly, just those two years. After this group was ready to move onto 7th grade as well as the principal, no more 6th grade at La Pluma. Convenient dont you think. Yes Norwalk schools do get far more money than La Mirada schools (except for Benton right now) but they are title one schools and are allocated more money. I do read the minutes but I dont stop there. The only people in here who get defensive would be those who have a child in this group that is mentioned. For everyone else its just information that hopefully opens their eyes to something that has been going on right in front of them but unless the bigger picture is exposed wouldnt have noticed. Benton's principal will move to LMHS with her special group of student's just as she moved to Benton from La Pluma with them. They've had it planned from the beginning. They broke up the high school's administration when they did because it would be hard to replace a black principal with another black principal. Replacing a white principal with a black female principal is a little more doable.

I am involved. I am part of the solution. Bringing awareness to other parents is a start. There is power in numbers. Either your with us or not. The only people who have something to loose would be those who have benefitted from this scandal in some way. If so, shame on you. What you have cheated so many kids out of and given to yours is criminal. More than that it is disgusting.

Watching,
First, it was they had sixth grade for only one year, due to principal's child, Next, it was pointed out that it was for two years and you said,"Exactly, just those two years. After this group was ready to move onto 7th grade as well as the principal, no more 6th grade at La Pluma. Convenient dont you think." Then it was pointed out that other schools added sixth grade as well, and you ignored that. Then it was "convenient" that they got rid of it when she left, again completely ignoring the FACT that the other schools (yes plural) disbanded it as well. That is quite a conspiracy for the principal to get the other schools to add sixth grade and then disband it when her kid was gone. I think they probably met on the grassy knoll to think this up! You even added the race card! Spreading half-truths and opinions disguised as facts, does not make you
"involved and part of the solution." Power in numbers? There is one of you?
"The only people who have something to loose would be those who have benefitted from this scandal in some way. If so, shame on you. What you have cheated so many kids out of and given to yours is criminal. More than that it is disgusting." Once again your reaching! My kids have been through the district and graduated from college. "Either your with us or against us."

Look around you are all alone hiding behind your computer.
