There were some nurses there abusing patients. They would go in to the rooms of the patients after dark and would fill up syringes with toilet water or ice water and would spurt it in the patient’s face. To try and get a response, if you didn’t show a response they would leave them alone. One of the other event that happened was, one of the nurse took naked pictures of the patient’s butt and breasts and posted them on Facebook. Appalachian Christian Village is no longer are accepting new admissions as of February 8. The TBI are now investigating. I hope these heartless nurses get their licenses get taking away permanently and also that they serve jail time! There is a special place in hell for people like that!

I read many of the comments on the JCP site and it seems like a typical case of dysfunctional management. A women complained about her moms treatment and rather than discuss the matter they threatened to have her arrested.

@Go Bucs
It's a little more then dysfunctional management! What if your mom was being abused? Would you "just discuss it"? Or would you do something?

The paper said CNA's not nurses. Big difference. Don't want people thinking that's how nurses are!

I work as a CNA in a nursing home in Va and I cannot even comprehend how someone could do what these workers did at Appalachain Christian Village. I mean we are supposed to be taking care of these people not torturing them and thats exactly what happened to them. I take pride in my job as I love doing what I do. My residents are a huge part of my life. If you have to sink that low then you def. need to find another line of work but in my opinion they need to have their license stripped and be locked up and have to withstand the same kind of torture these older people have withstood for God only knows how long. I hope they get whats coming to them!!!!!!

That's nothing compared to whay I saw going on at Anderson Nursing home in Gray. I quit because I couldn't stand it anymore. Right after, the Sh*t hit the fan for them. My sister, who was a CNA at Ivy Hall in Elizabethton was actually assaulted by another CNA because she threatened to tell on her for abusing the patients. It's pitiful what goes on in some of these nursing homes and it's gonna get worse.

My mother is at Broadmore Assisted Living in JC, I almost put her in ACV and am so glad now I didn't. Mom doesn't have alzheimers and is very coherent to her surroundings, so she would be able to tell me if someone was mistreating her.

I did some work there in school, and the cnas were unhappy little brats who treated the pts like they were needy kids. It was very distressing. The nurses were too busy to do anything with the patients except hand them meds all day long. If the pts need something they buzz a buzzer and it pages their cna who might not even answer bc theyre out smoking or texting. I cant tell you how many times the pts complained to me that their buzzer was broken bc they never got waited on by the people who were hired to meet their needs! Also, the admin, and staff have their favorites. If the pt is private pay and hands them hard cold cash, or if the family comes to visit daily, they put on a show that would lead you to think theyre taking the best care of your loved one. Once you leave, theyre right back to being ignored. I say video cameras everywhere in all nursing homes. They have them in daycares, why not keep a legal eye on your older family member? Sad. You could see in their eyes how much they needed help and couldnt communicate.

I think you are wrong believing it is the nurses. Usually very few nurses at a nursing home. Aides/CNAs are the culprits. I agree with you they should be punished to the max. My father was abused but it was brushed over and denied by the nursing home - not ACV. Abuse/neglect in all of them. Their game is MONEY, only money. The situation with nursing homes is horrendous. I've seen too much in my life and condone none of it.
