I hope the poor woman who was hurt by the two criminals isn't reading this sad column, and listening to the comments of those deranged women who says its OK for you to be out at 2:30 a.m., they are wrong.
I am so sorry that you were hurt and I know you must feel very angry. I understand your feeling since I too am a victim of violent crime. From my bad experience I learned some lessons that I would like to share with you and it may help you to stay safe in the future.
1) Don't think the police can keep u safe--they can not. All they can do is pick up the pieces and maybe catch the bad guy, after you are already hurt. Your safety is something you have to take responsibility for.
2) Don't go out late at night, and especially by yourself. Try to be in your house by 10 p.m. latest and stay there. If you have to stay up late, watch movies or do things at home. At night is when the crazies come out, drinking and drugging.
3) Don't drink alcohol or do drugs. Stay away from people who do. Drinking and drugging is one of the easiest ways to get hurt since your good judgment is affected and you do things you normally wouldn't. Also the people u hang with have similarly bad judgment. And there are some bad, bad people out there on drugs.
4) If I was a young woman I would try to go out in the company of a friend as much as possible. Two people together are safer than one alone. Too many bad guys all hyped up on drugs and porn are out there looking for victims. Girls are disapearing every day sad to say, check out all the "Missing children" and "missing adults" site.
5) Carry a legal weapon like a folding knife with a non slip grip and practice using it. If someone is trying to hurt you, don't be afraid to use it. Try to go for their eyes if you can since that will disable them and then run like heck.
6) carry a cell phone with 911 pre set
7_) aways lock your car doors. Always
8) try to stay away from bad parts of town.
9) dont argue with people, especially people you dont know. let them be right, its OK. If someone cuts in line or cuts you off on the road, dont react angrily or give them the finger. The meek shall inherit the earth.
10) Don't sexually tease men, ever, but especially if they have been drinking.
11) Don't dress provocatively, with middie shirts, no bra, etc. Dress conservatively and modestly.
12) Don't pick up hitchhikers or don't let people into your house to call for help. Let them stay outside and you call for them.
This is all I can think of now. I hope you can recover from what happened to you. I'd try to follow this advice since it will help keep you safe. I pay you can recover from your bad experience. If you can learn from the experience then at least you can take something positive away from it, although I know it will be hard. God bless you.

Let's face it. We all know that the world is headed for destruction. It doesn't mean that we give up hope though. I mean we are not going to live in fear of what could invade our space. People are out there to hurt others, this is true. Do you want to live in fear all the time, no of course not. I understand what "herma" is trying to say, but, You need to watch what you say. I would love to see you say the things you have said to "an American's" face. If you knew what was good for you, you would not do it. Everyone in America is not the same, nor do we all follow the same ethics. This is a VERY DIVERSE country. Diverse in many different ways. Land of the free... until you commit a crime that is outlined by state and federal LAWS. It is true that anyone can provoke a crime from unstable people. No one intentionally does this, unless they are crazy. The society here is different everywhere you go... town to town, city to city, state to state. Like I said it is diverse. There are educated and uneducated people here. Rich and poor. Sane and Crazy. We know the Lord is coming back soon as well. I know I will still be here after the "rapture". I will be a "guide" to help others repent and be with Jesus and God. I'm not crazy, but, I am. Not wacked just very hopeful and inspirational. I am a dreamer. I follow my heart. I am good natured. But I smoke cigarettes and use profanity. I want to quit. I know that I will one day. It would be the least of my worries. I am strong inside and out. I am very optimistic. I have seen many close calls with death. I almost lost my left arm from the elbow down. Luckily God gave me stregnth to persivere. I have many scars. Physically, Emotionally, and Mentally. What hasn't killed us has made us stronger. I've been to the bad side of town and back again. I've been the victim. I've done my share of wrong too. I've never been the criminal of violent acts. But I have done my share and I am not proud of it. There are mean and crazy people that are "out there, in some wacked out world they are living in". For the most part though must of us are just living.

I was born in the USA and so were my parents, but I am of Spanish, Indian and Mexican decent. I am shocked to see when a crime is committed blame goes to the race that has committed the offense. Put the blame where it belongs. These guys that commit rapes, beatings, attempted murder are preditors. They made awfully bad choices that not only affected them but also another human being. I do not know her personally, but I do know that she has to be someones daughter. No one should be treated this way!! They made a bad choice to take it futher that it should have gone. Did she deserve to be raped, beaten and left out to die?? NO! There are rapes everyday done by all races. Why? Because the predators choose to make wrong choices. They only think of themselves and not their victims. I know how it affects people (illegals) that are trying to make a better life for themselves. This type of crime tarnishes any race, illegal or not. Parents, help your daughters be street smart, teach them to rely on their feelings. Crimes against women happen everyday and most are done by our own citizens. Please blame the person that committed the offense not the race.

No one deserves what happened to this woman. No matter how she was acting or what she was doing. It is not her fault that illegal aliens are stupid. If this happened to my daughter I would be going to jail not the illegal aliens—
I'm sorry whoever u are but apparently the truth hurt u so bad u don't even know what to say I'm not an illegal alien, but not all of them are stupid like u say there are also other races like those serial killers that did so much harm and none of them were illegals were they?

her ma mever taught her is just one of those people who tend to believe their opinion is the only one that counts.

I have one question for you, her ma never taught her. "Why is it that you believe that crime occurs after 10:00 PM at night and all women or girls should be at home during this time?"

The answer is, "crime occurs at all hours of the time of day or night and it occurs in our own homes where we should feel protected.

So I would suggest you take your position and rethink it to the true ways Americans live in true American Society with crime in America.

I have a story for you to help you understand where I come from. I was 16 years old and at home alone where I lived with my sister and three brothers as well as my mom. I had been home about an hour by myself and the sun began to set on one Tuesday evening in California. It was a beautfiul evening with a bright orange/red sun and still plenty of light outdoors. I turned on all the lights downstairs and was very comfortable in my SAFE HOME and doing what all young girls do. I was painting my fingernails when suddenly the lights went out. I was afraid to go out the back sliding glass door to the laundry room where the electrical panel was to check because I didn't know why the lights had gone out. There was no storm, it was a beautiful day so I walked to the back and locked the sliding glass door and then I began to the front room and was going to go upstairs because the only telephone we had was there. The stairs were directly to the left of the front door so I had to pass it to get there. Just as I was getting to the front door area I noticed and heard the front door knob was being jiggled. I froze in spot because I was terrified. I was alone and there was noone to help me but myself. All the curtains were closed and I could not see who was at my front door. I waited until the door came open about three inches and I screamed as loud as I could and at as high a pitch as I could. Whoever the person was ran and jumped the fence. I never did find out who the person was either. Whoever it was obviuosly had been watching me to know I was ALONE when I had such a large family living there. It's a scary thing To know I was completely alone and someone planned an attack on me during light hours before the sun had set and to turn off my power at the back of the house risking being seen by a neighbor behind me tells me this person didn't care whether he/she/they were caught or not.

So your thoughts on crime and young girls or women doesn't sit well with me because it happens all the time and in our own homes where we are supposed to be safe.

Please stop smearing the girl and let it go.

Uh, if you are in this country illegally...yep, IMO you are stupid. Do the right thing and come into this country legally. This is my opinion. And, according to the constitution of the United States of America, to which I was born a citizen, I am entitled to my opinion.

"No she was not "Closing down the bars!" This young woman endured enough from these two and now she has to endure more from unthoughtful and judgemental people like you. She was having an innocent night out with friends just as the report said. You must be in the media and skewer stories to suit what you want them to say. That's what most media personnel do. Get the facts before you decide to slander an innocent victim.

Ladies you are missing the point. Sure a lady has the right to stay out late, by herself, if she wants too, its a free country....but is it smart? I don't think so, this is when a lot of crime occurs.
Look at it this way...you have the right to walk through the forest where the man eating tiger lives....but is it smart? And what would you think if someone walked through that forest and was eaten? Would you then curse the person who warns others not to walk through the forest? Thats what your doing. If something is dangerous, you stay away from it, no matter what your "rights" are, unless you're pretty stupid.
You make no sense, your just full of emotion. Especially you Deb, plus you're rude and also annoying with your typing in all caps.
First off, I would just like to say that I live in Mexia, and knew this girl personally. I was very good friends with her brother, so I hung around with her too. She is an amazing girl, completely clean.. never did drugs, or drank... She was hanging out with 2 of my other friends outside a small mall that had a video store in it that the two friends worked. When she left to go to her home in Tehuacana (About 5 miles out of town), the car with the two illegals began to follow her... and you know the rest.

This is by NO means her fault... she was not drinking, there are no legit bars within 100 miles of here, and she was simply driving home.

Do NOT talk strash about how it is her fault... You apparently do not have any morals whatsoever if you think it is her fault. She did nothing wrong...

Sorry if I sound like an idiot... It just makes me mad when people blame a good friend of mine FOR GETTING RAPED!

I don't even have to read this article, only the heading to say this...If our "LAWS" in this this country would be enforced and prisons were a place these criminals actually feared, instead of somewhere they get to go for a family reunion...We wouldn't have to worry about being out late at night! Or any other time for that matter. These criminals know that they will not have to spend their full sentence in prison. They know they may even just get probation! Or if their Atty. can find a technicality somewhere, they'll get off Scott free! Where's the deterrent to being a criminal? They have more rights than the law abiding citizens of this country! Rights that they forfeited when they chose to commit the crime! Rights that they stole from their victims! Rights that "OUR" government have prostituted for the sake of votes! This nation has become a haven for criminals from every country on earth because of our pseudo laws. Our government worries about whether a death row convict will feel discomfort when they are being put to death by lethal injection?
I certainly hope so!

her ma... I am a good friend of this "woman" that you refer to. I will have you know that this "woman" was out late because she was comming fro a church funtion, which I too am a part of, that was preparing for a meal for poverty striken families. She cooked and set up decorations and was not "drinking" or doing whatever you think she was doing. I should know because I was with her that night, that is, until I left because I had a school function the very next day. I hope that you think about all of your thoughts that you so blatantly wrote without even knowing the situation.

I am with you Deb... I think I know who you are because that is what everyone calls you around here in Mexia.

I hope you realize "her ma" that the story i just wrote is false... but that is the kind of girl she was... She never drank, as far as I knew she was still a virgin. She has friends that love her. I was on a team with both her and her brother. The people that did this to her were jealous, non american, demon striken individuals looking for a cheap thrill that cost their future and definately changed a TEENAGE GIRL'S life.
