Thought Id post here since local media wont print the real story about the situation but yet continues to let the owner and upper management manipulate them to justify their questionable tactics.
Ive been employed with Arvin for what wouldve been 11 years this year. This actually all started back in 2000 when Arvin was sold to Meritor. This was not a merger,it was a buyout that happened for two reasons. You had a individual that saw a way to make a easy $13 million and Meritor saw a way to eliminate their competition.
Which brings us to our current situation. The owner had no intention of keeping this plant open.If you look at the mechanics of the LLC provisions,it fits the chronology of whats happened to Arvin. They say that they have to close due to loss of customers and loss of a credit line.
Well, first off every customer we talked to have all said the same thing. They didnt voluntarily leave. They were told by the owner that their business was no longer wanted and to remove their property. They didnt want to leave, and if anything they were basically begging and pleading to keep their business here.
As far as the loss of credit, thats what happens when you dont pay your bills. This is the way the owner works. He buys a plant, doesnt pay the bills, takes the assets, bankrupts it,closes it,and moves onto the next one.Hes done this 10 times now to 2000 families and this is just the employees. This doesnt count the customers, the suppliers, the cities that are losing tax money, and all other affected parties. One of the plants hes done this to (Dicky Graebler,Cleveland OH) had been in busines almost 200 years. They claim it was unprofitable and had to close it.If thats the case then how did they stay in business almost 200 years??
Bottom line is this:there is no reason for this plant to close except for pure corporate greed. The owner is taking advantage of the provisions of the LLC designation for his own profit. All the lawsuits against him will not get any monetary settlement because his assets are protected by the LLC.Arvin 17th St could be workin 6 or 7 days a week right now no problem. The employees have done everything in their power to keep it open. The employees, customers, and suppliers have done nothing wrong in this situation.
Hopefully, everyone will come out of this mess somehow.Bad thing is,theres people that have been there almost 40 years. What are they supposed to do?What gives one man the right to decide the fate of 2000 families?

Because , somehow or another , he got to be the BOSS - BTW , was this plant Unionized ?? If so , that could be a very good reason that it flopped - I will agree that the manipulation of laws concerning re-orgs or flat out bankruptcy is shady at best - I am not anti union , but , at present , the American economy cannot afford to pay high prices for common , everyday items - Was voluntary wage reduction ever discussed ?? On their way to the employment office , did all the former employees line up in front of the former C E O's house and bitch slap him when he came out ?? No ?? Why ?? If his greed shut the plant ,(as was stated), let him know your feelings - pat him on the head with a muffler - They're awful expensive , but , he's probably aware of that - Peace -

why does it say Im in Three Rivers MI?Im in Columbus,IN.lol.Yes,this is a union plant, open shop.Yes we did agree to wage concessions to keep our jobs and keep the place open.We were told in the meeting, take cuts or plant will close.Of course,we were being lied to.All this did was to buy us a few more months and allow the owner to suck more money out of us.
And no the reason for closing is not because of the union. Its because the owner has sucked all he can out of the place and hes moving on to the next one.
As far as the unemployment office,I dont want unemployment.Id rather be working than taking a handout.I would be working right now except for the actions of one greedy invidual.
And no we did not confront him.No one knows where he lives.Do you really think someone like this is going to leave a easily followed trail? And if he was confronted,do you really think he cares what anyone thinks?
All I know is Im the one that was in there everyday.I along with everyone else know the real story. We saw what was going on.We were the ones that were lied to in numerous meetings. We were the ones that talked to the customers that were told to get their stuff and get out.Talk to Caterpillar,Navistar,Internati onal,TRW,Autoliv,Takata theyll tell you the true story.

I appreciate your answer and sympathize with all the workers - If this boss was unscrupulous in any way , maybe he'll share a cell with Madoff - To show how things change , back in '69 ,$300 -$400 per week jobs were on every corner - I had more than my share - Not knowing that this was coming - 20-20 hindsight being the best foresight , why didn't I listen to some of those "old" guys , telling us young experts to work , save , and work some more ??

For enough cash , you could print my whole dang life history - It would probably be titled , "" The ramblings of an old man , who likes to gossip , while distorted memories of years past float thru what's left of his mind"" - Top that off with a 30 cube of Miller High Life - Send the cash , sign me up , and lets get typing - H A N D -
( have a nice day)

Just posting a update Ive heard about.Apparently Patrick James and his "business" still own the property on this site. But the equipment is being sold through a auction. The banks apparently own the equipment and are somehow trying to recoup some of their losses they're not going to get from Mr. James. So,in the end,it will be a big empty building sitting there rotting.
