moving to Nashville

I'm planning to move to Nashville sometime in the next couple months. Are there any suggestions for apartments or places for part time work? I majored in English and minored in Theatre. I have taught day care in the past. I have worked in a tanning salon for five years, first as a salon coordiantor (receptionist) and now as a file clerk.

Are you talkin' bout N'ville, Il.? They are OK in my book. I doctor there and have shopped there. Good, law abiding, kind hearted people. Just like in any town, you can always find the bad ones if you look hard enough. But hey, Why stop there? Head on further South a bit...Pickneyville would love to have you.

It's a bit like high school. If it is important to you to be part of the "in" crowd, don't move there. The "in" crowd is well established and they don't like things to change. If you are just looking for a nice place to live, low crime, decent weather, then go for it and ignore the local politics. Bop has a point about P'ville, the house prices are lower, property taxes are lower...and my understanding is that the quality of education in the public schools has taken a nosedive recently...

I've lived here for 10 1/2 yrs. I live in the rural community. There are a lot of good and honest people here,, trying to live and survive just like anywhere else, only most of the people are related here in some form or other.. the police are more harrassing than most places, beleiving they are IT! Thinking they can harrass anyone, anytime they choose. Personally, they don't bother me,, I just know what they do to most people. If you don't do what they want you to do.. re: snitch for them, lie for them,, then they will be very un-merciful to you or whomever.. they are very corrupt. The town is clean,, but as one person wrote.. Nashville does not and will not change even if it's for the better-ment of the community. Good luck in your decision.

I plan on moving there to Nashville.....they don't seem to be as intellect as where I'm from....worries me....southern illinois means closer to deep south I guess and further from Chicago so 'class' is a concern. You can't ride a bike after dark and that is crazy....hope I get ticketed cause that won't fly.....I walk alot after dark in the summer and the little one rides next to me.....it's fun. I'm sure I won't fit in....they are all German or Polish.....wow not me.

Hmmm....dont' confuse any part of IL with the "deep South" - things might be different from Chi-town, but that dont' make it Mississippi. It's like a lot of other small towns in America, including up here in New England. What do you mean by "class"? Wrapped up in societal norms of the Victorian era, eh?

Yes, mostly Germans and Poles, but Scotch-Irish and other ethnicities. NTC it is not.

I live in Missouri and much of my family lives in the Nashville/Pinckneyville area. Nashville is a great area. Everybody is very friendly. I can't move back home because of my job but would move in a heart beat if I could. I would stay away from Pinckneyville....the taxes there will kill you. The school district taxes folks to death. I should know because my parents are in Pinckneyville and I see the tax bill.

True, taxes are high. But, crime is almost non-existant (can't remember the last time I locked my car or my house), its safe and legal to walk the streets at any hour of the day or night, the local police are friendly and helpful, and most of the people are pretty friendly. It's a great place to raise kids and the school system is excellent. Like all small towns, there are "cliques", but they're usually not a problem. I've lived here for over 35 years and all my kids have gone through the local school system. I can't imagine a safer place to raise a family.
