The worst place ive ever been to on vacation, northome minnesota
Went on vacation there and talk about a bad place to visit, the people there were very rude,
we ate at a little resteraunt outside of town,
a very little place, the service was not ok the waitress we had was very rude and her service was far from good, the food wasnt all that great either and the place was very small, it is also a bar and the bar patrons were drinking heavily and were being very loud it ruined the dinner mood, the folks that were in there at the time just stared at you as if you owed them money and made it a very uncomfortable atmosphere, they have a small litte gas station in town and i will say the owner was a very friendly man more then willing to talk your ear off, there wasnt alot to do there but fish and that was another story, we tryed our luck at a nice lake call island lake just south of town although the fishing was fine the folks at the public access acted as though we were tresspassing on private property, and attempted to hurry us along as though we were in there way..
we tryed to visit city hall in town on a monday morning and there was no one around to answer any of our questions, and again tuesday morning the same attempt with the same results, we were later told by some local folks who laughed and told us good luck the city clerk works when she wants and comes and goes as she please's so any tourist information from there city hall was out of the question for us, to make a long story short we meaning my wife and i will never visit that little town again nor recommend it to any of our friends..........

You must have been walking around with a chip on your shoulder, because Northome is a great town and it's hard to find people better than the locals. I live in Zimmerman,MN but my family grew up in Waskish,MN, 30 miles north of Northome and some of my family still lives in Waskish, Kelliher, and Northome. So maybe you need to go back to Bemidji settle down a little and go back to Northome and enjoy the beautifull scenary and small town hospitallity. And if you can't get along with the good people there stay home you 'Beaver'. I hope you change your opinion.

I doubt if he will change his opinion, because mostly, he's right on the money. Several years back I had the dis-pleasure of staying at the Park Inn Motel in Northome. I know a lot of people in rural communities think "city people" are snobs - well, let me tell you, the "snobbery" was in full force at this little "Inn". I grew up country and live city, by career necessity only, and I've come across my share of 'uppity' individuals, I can spot 'em a mile away - and these two were at the top of the list. It has nothing to do with city vs. country. I figured maybe they believe they're the 'upper class' in this tiny little community of only about 300 or less. You know that old adage "Would you rather be a big fish in a little pond..." Hmm...maybe that's why they never left. However, I must say northern Minnesota has plenty of places with friendly, down-to-earth people - I recall a resort in Gemmell(sp.?), can't remember the name, but it was a really nice getaway - great accomodations and hosts. You just gotta try a few to find the good ones!

I grew up thirty miles away, and I treasure my memories of the Northome girls. Being a total geek, I got no respect from the locals, but in Northome, even the really gorgeous girls were cordial and accommodating. They would often drive all the way to Craig to join us at Peggy's. Of course, that was before the sexual revolution, so we (I at least) never got beyond "heavy petting", but, even now at 70, I often lift a glass to the Northome girls. When I die, I plan to spend eternity in the corner booth at Peggy's with a Northome girl on each arm.

I had a great 4 days in Northome. although I would strongly suggest that you hire a local to escort you arond the town. I especially enjoyed the local hardware store, the corner restaurant, and the combo gas station-bait shop. Most of the men I met wre rather taciturn and standoffish. that can be mistaken for snobbery. But most folks were very friendly, even the game warden. I plan to come back again next year with my family and of course we will dress modestly.

It's really too bad you missed Peggy's. As for modesty in dress, the mosquitoes make that mandatory.

Northome is the best town ever. I've been going up there for 20 years (Since I was a baby). Everyone in the town knows me and my family. Everyone in the town are very laid back and very friendly. They would always love to share a fishing story or a hunting story with you. I have never had an issue with anyone being snobby... perhaps you are the one who acted snobby and they were just paying back the favor.

I stop by northome alot and i know many people there. They are not bad people, they are justinsulated from the outside world most of the time . when people show up from the outside world they are baiting bear or shooting deer both of which are male drinking sports. not many women show up. liquor establishments and churches have all the attention. small towns in the middle of nowhere arent famous for their chambers of commerce. youre on their turf. get used to it.

I would like to let every person who reads this know as a person who has lived 10 miles from Northome for 28yrs. We came from Monticello. That you would find nicer and people that talk to everyone. And if you were at a cafe there all you would have to do is be there and people would be nice and kind to you. Because I worked in 2 of them at sometime. And Fishers station is the best stop in town. I would ask anyone who has to them had a bad time in Northome Please come back and go to Jigg's cafe at 8 a.m. 7 day's a week and you will see just how much fun you can have in Beautyfull downtown NORTHOME!!!

just yesterday I was telling someone (who has recently moved into the Northome area) "how much I LOVE where I live!" We moved to the area 13 years ago only to find ourselves in the midst of a great bunch of Christians and neighbors. The dining is casual, friendly and good. The businesses in this area are run (for the most part) by people who go out of their way to help. Tourism is a big part of this small community and most of us appreciate our visitors and are grateful for their taking the time to vacation here (which is what WE did first before moving here) We LOVE where we live and can't imagine being anywhere else, and we were some of those "city snobs" for over 45 years first!

Daily Horoscope for March 21

Taurus

You should have plenty of energy as a lively mood prevails today. The changing Moon enters your second house of finances, giving some Bulls the itch to go on a shopping spree. If you think spending money on status symbol items will make others think more highly of you, save your cash. It may be tempting to try to keep up with the Jones's, but in the end it is who you are and not what you have that will impress others.
