Hard-working lobbyist helps get gun law passed

As business lobbyists learned this spring, don't mess with Marion Hammer. Hammer, 69, has been the National Rifle Association's lobbyist in Tallahassee for more than three decades.

Marion Hammer is one of the most sensible people in Florida. She tries to bring common sense and reason to the legislative process (which badly needs it sometimes) when unreasoned arguments are being made.

Thank you, Marion, for all that you do. It is roundly ridiculous that someone would be forbidden to store a firearm in their one vehicle, regardless of where that might be. Thanks for helping to right that injustice.

Hat's off to you, and continue being a great Mother/Grandmother, to those kids!

The statement that Marion Hammer worked alone is not entirely true. She kept NRA members informed and urged them to lobby their representatives WITH her. Thousands of us responded. It was a TEAM effort showing that "grandma" hammer is as much a coach as a lobbyist.

Happy Mothers Day, Marion!

Thank you Marion...all gun owners should be thanking you for your tireless efforts to protect their right to have a firearm available for self defense. We need more firearm owners to get involved, it's time to be heard, we are the majority, no longer controlled by a very vocal minority. Hunting and shooting sports is a way of life for many of us. Carrying firearms in our vehicles is as common as baseball bats and golf clubs. No company should be able to dictate what an employee can or can't have in their vehicle, if that item is legal.

Nice to see how the NRA works hard to see that personal protection rights of other are protected. But for some reason it is not working hear in Illinois. In this state the people want thier rights protected but the Legislature over look the needs of the people. NRA get some balls in Illinois.

Tracy are you a member? If so great! Just get the 'free ride' gun owners in Ill to join up and Ill can join states like Florida. If you are not a member YOU are the problem. The NRA is just people.

Happy Mothers day Marion !

So the dreaded "GUN LOBBY" is actually a 69-year old grandmother, eh? Ha-ha-ha... Wonderful! My admiration for Marion Hammer's dedication is matched by my shame for not having joined the battle sooner.

Thank you, Mrs. Hammer, for decades of leading where no one else would go. Best wishes.

First, I am a passionate gun owner. I own enough firearms to make one of our local gun store clerks envious. But..... just as I am against the govt telling me what to do on my private property with my firearms, and am against the govt from telling a business owner whether or not their patrons can have firearms or smoke on the premises, I am ALSO against the govt demanding that a private employer allow firearms on their property even if it is in the person's car. My issue isn't the firearm, it is property rights. And as firearms owners and promoters, we can't have it both ways.

Lets see here 4 million NRA members and 80 million gun owners in America. Maybe if we had at least 40 million members we would not be constantly under attack from the gun grabbers. The people of Illinois should join the club, join the NRA.

Well its really a shame about Illinois, but the NRA can only do so much. Seems to me your state is run by the Chicago political sphere of influence. The people there need to make the change in your state goverment for the better, you're slowly lagging behind much of the country. Oh, and a FOID card? Please, we have no such thing in the south. Illinois might just be a lost cause, kind of like New Jersey, New York, and mASSachusetts.

Thank you Marion!

Mike, we're not "having it both ways".
We're excercising our Second Amendment rights and the businesses are keeping
their noses out of our cars while retaining their right to prohibit guns
in their offices and buildings.

A win/win situation!
