should be a state to state.border to border law not pit bulls in USA.

My attack cat is next.....

I remember when it was German Shepherds, then Dobermans that were "much too dangerous" to have as pets. I once had a very cute cocker spaniel that loved to nip!
Once again, lawmakers are responding with a knee-jerk uninformed stupid idea. I agree with Anita above - it should be the owners, not the breed, held responsible. |

Amen Anita!! There are no bad dogs, but there are some really bad owners who make the dogs bad. Pit bulls aren't born that way, they are made that way by people who should not own an animal. Don't ban the breed, ban the dumba$$'s. Pass stiffer laws and penalties to be enforced, make the people pay not the animals who have no say what is done to them. I've know some very sweet pit bulls who didn't have a mean bone in their body.
Like Anita said.. Just plain STUPID!! |

I think there should be a state to state, border to border law banning stupid and ignorant people like you

Blacks & Mexicans make up the majority of prison populations. Does that mean all Blacks & amexicans are bad ?

The pitbull is the most popular breed in the U.S. so.. you probably couldn't identify a pitbull if you saw one

I love dogs, but banning owners is not really practical. Are you going to wait until some idiot's pit bull kills your child or perhaps your elderly parent and then just tell the owner "no more dogs for you?"
I was walking my dog yesterday and she was attacked by a roaming pit that had escaped. My firend's 3 year old daughter had her face mauled by a pit that lunged at her when her owner opened the door. You're now allowed to own a predatory cat (like a jaguar) without special permits. Why not the same for large strong dog breeds like pits, requiring the owner to understand how to properly care for and control the animal? |

I have raised pit bulls all my life. my parents owned two and my kids have been around them also. these dogs are not vicious because they were raised right. i have never had one of my dogs attack anyone. they are loyal and loving if they are taught right. those that want to ban them need to look around--i have seen very bad dogs bites from many different dogs. the only reason you hear more about pit bulls is because of the hysteria the media is creating around them.

1 However... a Pit is a Pit... natural instinct can take over in a blink of an eye and cause havoc. Just like the owners of exotic animals.. like tigers and such... same thing there. We have seen lots of media craziness, indeed. But, boil it down to the raw facts, and you'll find that a Pit is much more likely to turn on anyone, its owner, other dogs.. etc. They are just bred that way. Its not the pits fault either... we just bred a dog for being mean and viscious and now we have turned them into a family pet. Not all Pits can be both.... |

heres a new idea target the people who raise these breeds to be aggressive. Like was already stated any dog can bite. it is all in the way they are raised. what will you do next ban cocker spaniels? they have an extremely high bite rate too!!

I want to ban stupid lawmakers.
But it probably won't happen.:( |

1 are you sure they were pits? half the time people and the news call a dog a pit when it is nothing more than a common mutt. and the first one the owner was at fault especially..no dog should be allowed to roam..for the safety of people and for the safety of the dog..and the second owner should have had control of their dog as well. obviously the dog thought that someone was invading the home of its owner....owners have to be responsible..once again..no matter what breed...if you know your dog is protective of the home, make sure you bring the person in with the dog not right at the door....my dogs have never showed one sign of agression towards people..now if you are a big hunk of ham, you might get bit..but i wont let them off the leash if they arent in the back yard..and i never let people just walk up and pet them...if someone wants to pet my dogs..i invite the person over and the dogs then accept the person like they have known them all of their life. |

1 you are sadly misinformed..puts do not tend to turn on their owners more than any other dog..what part of any story have you not understood that other dogs bite much more than pits. the reason you hear about pits is because it makes for great news headlines..plain and simple.....if a pit has an fault it is that they are one of the most loyal dogs and will do anything their owners train them to do..they live to please their owners..if the owner trains them to be mean, they will be viscious..if like mine, they were raised to be sweet dogs..they will think they are lap dogs..like mine do....they are very sensitive to their families..my white pit is only 13 months old and therefore still has a lot of puppy in him and loves to run when he is on his leash..he could care less if i dont like to run! but the second i hand the leash to either my 10 year old or mr my 5 year old, he will stop pulling and walk right along beside them without any tension in the leash at all. like the story said..black labs bite much more than pits..lets ban them as well. pits unfortunately get bought by the wrong people because of their fearless disposition so idiots who think they need a tough dog buy them and raise them to be mean...when obviously its their manhood that is lacking if they need a dog to feel tough. i invite anyone who is unsure of pits and other bully breeds to meet my dogs..one is a pit and one is an american staffordshire terrier(related to pits) and you will have your opinion changed..funny, no one has ever taken me up on the offer. |
