Recently, the city passed an ordinance that all front hedges, walls, fences be no higher than 3 feet. This has created great concern among Talent citizens who have had to cut 20 year old greenery at great expense and also wooden fences which are not cheap.

The stated purpose of this ordinance is to improve public safety and neighborliness and to enhance enjoyment of light and air.

Twenty-two citizens have signed a letter to the Council asking that this ordinance be revisited. We enjoy our privacy and our greenery and feel that government has overstepped its role by micromanaging the personal lives of its citizens.

This item will be on the agenda of the Dec. 17, 2008 City Council meeting.
