Get used to it as that's what capitalism is all about... in the free market system, any individual or any entity has the right to use whatever leverage they can get to gain a competitive advantage over their competition to acquire and grow the most resources for their dollar invested, including leveraging the US Government for whatever competitive advantage the investor can secure in order to dominate the market place with your goods or services, or the ability to receive the most government subsidies that are available to extend their dominance in that same marketplace... which includes operating casinos, while accepting stimulus money from Obummer... I know maybe we can have a spelling contest... the winner will get voted the next Noble Peace prize for whining the loudest upon how the basis of how the American economic system works...

My white relatives never "tacked" anyones land. But they did "take" an Indian lady for a wife.

Great. If they can TAKE money from the government, then they can start PAYING TAXES back to the government from the casino revenues.
This is hypocrisy on a grand scale.

How long you going to use that excuse for being a wellfare recepient? I am Indian too...but I don't want anything from anybody. I'd prefer to earn it for myself. Grow up, support yourself, and stop being a bottom feeder.

Here's my intelligence...the land wasn't stolen, it was conquered. Get it right. I hope you are as proud of being a citizen of the United States as you are of being Indian (oops...I mean NATIVE AMERICAN JUST LIKE MY WHITE SELF).

This is comparing apples to oranges. The Casino are run by tribal corporations with the profits being invested in infrastructure throughout the jurisdictional area of each tribe. Although each tribe decides on how their profits are distributed you must remember that a certain percentage of these moneys goes into the state ito assist the state. The Cherokee tribe gifts the schools in their area for the benefit of the whole school. They use the profits for scholarships, elder housing, rural fire departments, and first responder programs for the rural communities. Now for the stimulus dollars, the tribes are governments and have a government to government relationaship with the federal government that stems from treaties and agreements made with the federal government since its inception. Their are many agreements that that the federal government has broken in regard to taking the land and other resources from our tribes throughout history. The guarantees in these documents for health care and education funds fall short of the need. How I see the stimulus dollars is one attempt to bridge the gap that has been going on for centuries in regard to shortages of dollars to meet these commitments.
The stimulus dollars are being used to fill some of the gaps in the governments commitment that they have not fulfilled in the past. This is one way that President Obama's administaion is moving towards honoring the government to government relationship with Indian tribes. You know everyone wants us to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps but not too far. Now that tribes have successful profit making arms of their government, their are those that do not think tribes deserve to be successful. Remember Indian citizens pay taxes too so the stimulus dollars are our tax dollars too.

I sort of have a problem with the bigger, richer tribes receiving stimulus money. Plus, I think stimulus money should go WHERE IT IS NEEDED. Not to who thinks they are entitled to it.

Plus, I saw on the news that by Indian law, 70% of the money from the casinos is to be funneled back into the casinos. That's nuts. So the Indian people are only going to benefit by 30% of that money? Don't be greedy and take more money because they are bogarting the majority of the casino money to build a bigger casino. Doesn't make any sense.

If any tribes were going to get anything, than it should have been the smaller ones!

They talked about using the stimulus money to fix tribal members homes, that's awesome but there is just as many non tribal members or members of poorer tribes that need repairs just as bad, if not worse.

Jeez. This stimulus money is not being spent very wisely.

Stimulus money should go back to the people who pay taxes. "If" lets say that a house hold with two working parents should get 50,000.00 credit from the government. Those 50k credit can only be used towards paying off debt first. Then anything left over they could put towards the purchase of new things such as houses, cars, or even clothes etc....... You talk about getting the economy back on track. You know most people aren't going to save it. I would gauruntee this would work.

If the casinos and road crews, contractors and the millions of others employed by these tribes were to fail and disappear, our economy in this state would crumble. The stimulus money was given to these nations to seed growth and continued improvement of our economy. It is working like it should. I dont need to lend false credibility to my statement by declaring my race.

One of the problems with Obama trying to 'fill the gaps' you mentioned is that our country is trillions of dollars in in debt, mostly to China. Obama is doing this with monopoly money. PEI, you are very articulate and found your comment educational. I still fundamentally disagree with the government to government relationship between the Indian tribes and the U.S./State governments.

You MAY have made some valid points, but when you start with "This is comparing apples to oranges" I had to stop & move on.

Then the last line caught me "Remember Indian citizens pay taxes too so the stimulus dollars are our tax dollars too."

Yeah, so.

Lets give them a proportionate amount to their TAX DISCOUNTS on tobacco, liquor, taxes, gaming, etc ... something like +30% LESS than everyone else.

Ok. Sure. Fine. I'm ok w/that.

Quit your whining; it gets old after +175 years, especially with all the "modern & recent" exclusive benefits granted the tribes.

Get real.

NEXT.

Daily Horoscope for December 4

Sagittarius

You're in a sensitive mood today, so you need to choose the company you keep very carefully. Resist the urge to believe only what you want to believe and to disregard the rest, even if something is so obvious that it's staring you in the face. Do not bury your head in the sand or avoid anything unpleasant, because you'll have to face it sooner or later. The more you resist doing this now, the more difficult things may be further down the line.
