Hi, Ny state has a State Registry where adoptees and parents and siblings can sign up. Adoptees can get back ground information, and sometimes medical. IF both parties sign up, you can be reunited.
Siblings can sign up too. The parent doesn't have to be signed up to be reunited with a sibling.
There are search and support groups too.

IF you were born in another state and want search help, there is a group call the registry on yahoo that helps with all states.

My mother's older daughter (my sister) was raised by the my mother's grandparents. I was surrendered for adoption. The Cayuga County Board of Child Welfare (Now known as Cayuga county Department of Social Services handled the adoption to Donald and Mildred May in 1927.
