Why not re-open them for low cost housing,or prison space,or a free collage,or something for the citizens of NYS. Can't anyone think around the box ,or is everything always destroy, and rebuild, costing taxpayers more and more $$$$$

What a scam! Just knock them down and bury the stuff. A prison would be a great use for that land, or maybe a illegal alien detention center.

Wow, developers would not by the property? Just think of all the thousands of people they could cram into that area and develop congestion and filth and help destroy Long Island a bit more. I guess the politicians out there do not have buddies that are developers like the scum in NYC.

I bet your right. A deal was probably made. Let the taxpayer clean up the mess, than a developer can build and make mega bucks while saving on the cleanup costs.. I wonder why the politicians are backing such an expensive plan????Maybe a perk??? I have walked those grounds, and It would make a perfect campus, low cost housing, prison psycho- institution again, and an illegal holding cell is a real good idea....

<quoted text>Dan, it's the residents of Kings Park that just want teh land cleaned and nothing to be built on it. They have fought fo rhte closing of the grounds and they will continue to fight if there are plans of anything to be built also.
I resided in Kings Park for 16 years before moving out in the mid 70's. It is no longer the same as it was back then.
True. Kings Park is deserate to get rid of their White Trash image. I think a State Facility should be rebuilt there. Perhaps another Jail.

Instead of giving NYC 354 mil for the " traffic problem " . Why not use the money to clean this place up and turn it into a "forever wild park" a place where the childern of tommorow can see what open country use to be like. Use the land for All , not just the rich

Suffolk County is not a town, it is what you said it is, A County, you sound like really , really intelligent person. I grew up in Suffolk County, the home I lived in was not made of that poison, nor were the grocery stores and other places I frequently visited. Maybe get your facts before posting smarty.

The buildings are all trashed and it would probably cost more to repair them for any kind of use. I think the estimate is low for demolition and rehab of the contamination and since the State made the mess in the first place, they have an obligation to clean it up. Then, some of it should be left as parkland and the rest developed in order to help with school taxes - a light industry, or office campus would be ideal.

I lived in Kings Park most of my life and what a waste!! The property years ago should of been made into a college.

The medical facilities was there!!! It wouldnt of cost all so much for the repairs if it was done right then and there instead of waiting 10 years!!!. There is now a rehad operating and and half way house which we see everyday. Is this what we really want?? i think it's time for some people to Sh-- or get off the pot.

Or do we want to go back to the old saying "Welcome to Kings Park. Where the nuts chase the squirrels."

7 million will not clean up the kings park grounds, more like 107 million. All those empty lots that you see going down the boulevard holds a little secret namely a buried biulding loaded with aspestos demolished before enviromental laws took effect.Sub tunnels run throughout the grounds that once brought power from the power plant again loaded with aspestos. Why this low ball figure?

Could you imagine the traffic congestion if the hospital grounds were to be developed as housing? When the hospital was functioning with three shifts, there was a lot less housing in the area. Now, KP is virtually paved over. Try to drive Main Street during the rush hours. Good luck. Low income housing? You are killing me. Why should taxpayers pay for someone else to live on the most desirable property in the entire town of Smithtown? Nobody is helping pay my mortgage. Besides, low income housing brings crime. The schools would become crowded without an increase in the tax base. Apartment and low income housing dwellers do not pay their fair share of school taxes. If you want to turn KP into a slum, put in low income housing. Is that politically incorrect? Oh, no, they will probably send me to re-education camp to learn the "party line".

Anyone who has a license with the Word Islip typed in the adress section needs to think about a career change because the last thing you want to do is wake up in the morning and realize that all thatyour education was able to muster was a dirty trash-hole on in Islip. Daily Horoscope for December 17

Taurus

Catch up with the chores today, especially if you've got a long list of them and you want to get through them all before Christmas. You're feeling nicely efficient without wanting to work yourself into the ground, so carry on at a steady pace. A few well-chosen words in a certain person's ear will be more effective than a lengthy conversation at other times.
