As a Jewess in the US, I say who NEEDS cops like this? Fire them all, then make any NRA membership card an automatic NATIONAL Concealed Carry permit! Think of the money we'd save on police cars and salaries.

For all those that want a national permit to carry or recognizing each states permits nationwide you should be in support of HR218, which allows qualified active and retired law enforcement to carry nationwide. If HR218 had not passed, what chance do you think a permit to carry that is valid nationwide would have?
Look at HR218 as a baby step, and hopefully the folks in DC can figure it out and allow permits to be valid nationwide. If this issue is left to the states, the effort is screwed.

True, this could be called a step toward national gun permits... But, it is predicated on the rationale that retired LEOs are qualified and everyone else is unqualified. And that will be a high hurdle to cross, especially with the left-ward shift in Washington politics for the next few years.

Some states allow different types of concealed carry. Might have to plan a route very carefully if you are planning a cross country trip. What is legal in one area is asking for jail in another.
