My father saw a huge cat of some sorts with a tail as long as its body around 17 years ago in Hico. Many others in that area reported seeing the same animal. Also my self and a co worker saw another huge cat crossing 19 between the biker barn an the flea market 2 or 3 years ago. Neither incident were house cats because they were extremely to large to be domestic.

yes we do have big cats in wv. i myself have seen a black panther in the new river area while hiking. i thought it was a big german shepard at first because it was sitting down and had pointed ears, i stood there about 30 yards away behind a tree because i didnt want it to see me and come my way because i had the kids with me. it set there about 3 mins and then when it stood up and walked off i seen that it was very cat like and had a long slim tail like you said as long as its body. very uneasy hiking after that.

i spoke to a dnr man i know and he told me that " his department could neither denie nor confirm" that they are here, and then told me to be careful while hiking in that area. so read between the lines on that one and i get a YES from it.

I saw a lion or something up Gauley once. It was across the river from me but just ambling up the bank and its tail was at least as long as it's body. It was brownish in color tho. This was back in the 80s...but I have always believed they are here.

Saw a mountain lion a few years ago cross Rt. 39 a few miles out of Summersville. I was really surprised.

DNR used to deny their existence. I guest they did not want frighten the tourist or the public.

Not many people farming and raising cattle now days.

Plenty of deer for them to eat.

The two my dad and I saw were both black. The one day saw was not far from New River area. There also have been reports from Greenbrier county of large cats. They actually have a big cat rescue organization there.

The only "cougars" I see are the of bitter, leathery, chain smoking variety that hang around Michelles and the Tractor Bar desperately trying to get guys to buy them a drink.

If there are big cats in WV, how come no one has ever taken a picture of them? LOL This day in age that everyone has a camera phone ya think there might be a couple pictures or video. One thing to point out if there were mountain lions in WV (there are not) they would not be black the would be light brown.

Yes we do have mountain lions and black panthers. My Dad worked in the mines many years ago. He had seen a mountain lion before but never a panther. He was coming from the mines one night really late and he seen a black panther. That was back in late 60's or early 70's. No camera phones then.

We have seen one twice around Gauley River near Craigsville. Sooo fast, and we werent quite sure. Then a neighbor's horse was attacked by something one night, it had claw marks from its neck all the way to its left flank. It later died. I was really curious and began to look for signs of one. We found some droppings that looked like Mountain Lion in a book we had. Used a scoop and and bag and Took them to Cranberry Nature Visitors center. They confirmed it was from a Mountain Lion. But if you ask them now, they say they can't confirm or deny their presence in WV.

Areas that actually have mountain lions people see them quite often. They have many pictures and videos. Their states all confirm their presence. Here, all you hear is yeah my great grandad swears he saw one, or we saw 'something' and it had to be a panther. No pictures, no video, no credible confirmed sightings, WVDNR says they are not here. the was a story last year up northern WV which a bunch of people swore there was a panther/mountain lion the DNR investigated and confirmed it was a very very large house cat. hahaha Those people SWORE it was a huge mountain lion. I know you wont change your minds and that is fine but there is no chance that wild panthers roam WV they never were native to this state. Cougars aka mountain lions it is possible because they used to live here but all were killed off long ago and has not been proven they returned.

If you go to Johnson's Sporting goods in Summersville they do have pictures of some taken on a game camera near Richwood. They are very big and beautiful creatures.

Pictures can be faked. Why hasn't there ever been a dead cat or a skeleton found. Not one hit by a car? Not one shot by a farmer or home owner? If there are any in wv then they are Pets that some hillbilly idiot had that tried to eat the kids.
