My husband and I took our 4 month child there. the baby was sooo sick. The nurse looked at us and told us that both of us could not go back with my child. She told us that we would have to switch back and forth with this stupid lil badge. Ohhh ok, hold on baby you stay here in this room alone while i walk out to the waiting room to switch out with your daddy. Or take the child out there and switch miss the Dr come in and have to wait 5 more hours. I think that this is a crock of crap! All of us parents need to bind together and force them to change that rule. It is hard enough to have a sick child, but then add on stupid retarted hospital rules that don't allow both partents to go back with their child. What happened to our rights as a parent? DOn't we have those any more?

Sounds like you found a bad nurse. Shouldn't be any reason why the both of you cant go back at the same time. I'd tell that nurse to hold the door for my wife. Unless you don't have insurance or the money for it though. Then you would be one of those people who never pays their hospital bills and further prevents us from having a better health care system. If that is you then I suggest trying some Ibuprofen.

That was ignorant of you to say. The inabilaty to pay has nothing to do with it. If it is a baby or young child both parents should be able to go back. SMH will never have a better health care system.

Try going to some of the bigger hospitals there wait time is a lot longer,And if everyone is so unhappy with SMH why go there, Go to oakhill ,beckley or try braxton county hospital. It doesnt matter where you go when your stressed people will lash out at the littlest things. Also when your there with a true emergency you do see things differtntly. Have one of your loved ones there not knowing if there gona live or die and you will see they do the best they can. There not god there humans they make mystakes and they cant make everyone happy. Ive been there when my husband was dieing they done there best ,but im sure there where some mad people that had to wait and they treated him first because it was life or death. Try to think of others god bless everyone.

It is a hospital Idiot. Not a fu****g prison. This hospital if full of egotistical, hot headed, doctors with God complexes. They think they know it all. There used to be a couple of decent ones there, but no more. The administration would not stand for the patients being treated nicely. Neither would the bitches that work the front window. So stick that up your satanic ass and smoke it.

A couple of things. It's not SMH anymore, it's Summersville Regional Medical Center. Secondly, it isn't easy being a health care worker especially in this town. If they are unprofessional I don't blame them to be honest. All people like to do is bitch and moan. Plus most think they are top priority when they aren't. They take back the people that are most critical then work their way down. You wait longer than you like? Get you belongings and go somewhere else. Now going back to the main topic at hand. Who really wants to leave their kids alone these days? The one parent thing is pretty ridiculous.

That is a very dumb rule and I do not understand it. But while we are on the subject of that place. Let me tell you this....My kid got hurt playing football...it was forever getting him seen. Then he was evaluated in the HALL of the ER. Before we left, two nurses came out of the trioge (sp) room with a DOG hidden under her shirt. They had been playing with it. THAT friends is why you have to sit up there for hours. They are mean because they want to play. Most of the time in the "old" ER there would be a ton of them sitting at the table laughing and carrying on. My advice is to call Dan Shellford he is in Administration, He is a reasonable kind man. He will get the rule changed or he will give you a good reason for it. NOT that I can think of one...pretty dumb!!

Im soo sick of people that are changing the reason for this post. I poseted this so that We can get this stupid rul changed. Im complainign about the rule not the wait. I know when i take my child to the Er that it is going to be a long wait. Granted i do get upset when they take people that come in after me that look fine before my sick child but what ever. As long as my child is "ok" not really bad off i don't complain. I just wnat everyone that has not been to the Er to also kow about this rule. No matter who is n there you are only allowed 1 person back with them. I thk that is unfair with a child. Especially when the child is running a fever that high. I know that someone said that it only takes 1 parent, well to that i say this. He was there for about 5 hrs before we even go to go back to see the nurses then it was 2 hrs before the dr seen us then we had to have xray labs and blood work. So you tell me if in that 8 hours if you thik that you might have needed a little help if your child was sick and screaming the whole time.So u ppl can think what you want about me but I want to make sure that my child has the best care and i need my husband the childs father there to help me make thebest decisions about my child and for the lil extra help. SO to you that dont care that you are not allowed back with your child that is your stupidity!

EMS worker

As an employee of an EMS service in West Virginia I have been in SMH numerous times, not to mention almost every other hospital in West Virginia and surrounding states. After spending that much time in ER's I believe that the one parent rule is a very good rule. If for every child there are two parents running around that ER, it would be a mad house! ER's are already packed enough as it is with all of the nurses, doctors, EMS, cleaning staff and numerous other people. A child does not need two parents to keep it calm. I understand that a child would LIKE for both parents to be with them and the parents would both LIKE to be with their child but it's almost impossible. Whether you're in an ER with your 2 year old child or your 80 year old grandmother.. Family wants to be with them at all times. ER's have rules because they WORK and they keep the place a little more calm. The nurses, doctors and all other health care workers at SMH are excellent. The hospital might not be a Level 1 Trauma Center or one of the best hospitals in the state but they do their job to their best abilities. I agree with Hummingbird. If you don't like SMH go to another hospital! And about the wait.. Every ER takes patients by priority. If you come in with flu-like symptoms or a headache you're going to be a lower priority than someone who's having a possible heart attack or has a traumatic injury. Even coming by ambulance doesn't guarantee that you'll get a room. If you call an ambulance becauses your head hurts, more than likely you'll be going in the waiting room too. The ER is called an ER for a reason.. It's an EMERGENCY room. You might feel like everyone else is going in before you and you're more critical than they are but 9/10 times you aren't able to make that decision. The nurses and doctors determine who's top priority because they're trained to do so. They know what they're doing so let them do their jobs without complaining! They're going to take care of you.. Just be patient.
