was it right or necessary for the police to kill a suicidal man who must of had some very serious problems? who probably needed some very serious help, not a bullet. when we watch cops on tv and they have a suicidal person with a gun, if he has no hostages they do not push him into a corner and shoot him to death. they back away and get someone who is qualified to try to get him some help. i would like to know more about what happened on the shooting of william keith white. i would love to hear from some of his friends or family members. Go to the web www.justiceandinjusticeofhopkinscounty.com

I agree with Mr Ford. I know for a fact that they knew he was on medication. I want to know if it was the same officer that had had already come in contact with White. If so was he one of the shooters of the fatial shot. Was this a revenge shooting.I hope the Texas Rangers really do a detail study of this.

I don't care if he was suicidal or not, he turned a gun, not once, but twice on officers. Those officers were doing their job and if they could have avoided shooting him they would have. The Hopkins County/Sulphur Springs SWAT does have a trained negotiator and he obliviously wasn't willing to cooperate with officers. I'm sorry for the guy's family but all those officers want to do at the end of their shift is to go home to their family and if that means they have to take lethal action when necessary then so be it.

one of the ten commandments is You shall not murder. any form of killing is pure and simple murder, was you there when it happened and witnessed it? i heard the whole thing on a scanner. how would you feel it that had been your father or loved one? the police could have shot him in the arm or leg, they did not have to kill him and the police have body armor that man did not and how many police were there to what, one man? WOW they really tried to help the man. its legal for police to kill someone in so called defense but other people cant kill legally. people that are scared in life want to be cops so they have the authority over people. and try to act big. thats ok, everyone will have to answer to god on judgement day and even if people dont believe in jesus or god will still have to face him and be accountable for everything they do their whole life on earth, i feel sorry for people who dont believe in god or jesus, how can your heart beat or know when to breathe air? god breathed air into you when you were in your mothers womb.

Let me turn it around. What if your husband/wife/brother/sister/mo ther/father/son/daughter was one of the officers that he turned the gun on? My husband is a police officer and all I want is for him to come home safe after every shift to me and our sons. If someone points a gun at him how is he supposed to know if that person is going to shoot him? He doesn't. So to protect himself, his fellow officers and any innocent bystanders deadly force is necessary.

Sue, I'm sorry to tell you, but if YOU feel your life is in danger you can legally kill someone. If someone is breaking into your home and you fear for your life you are well within the law to protect yourself and your property and if that means you have to shoot them then you can.

how is it murder when their lives are threatened? there's a big difference between just unloading a clip into someone that's not a thread vs. what the cops and swat team did in this instance.

when someone points a gun at you, what's your reaction?

my prayers go out to the guy's family, along with prayers for every police officer in this nation. it's not easy these days.

Sue.. You have no idea what happened. The scanner is just your way to gossip. Every single officer that was out there that night were all justified to shoot him. If White was willing to negotiate he wouldn't have started shooting before the officers could completely get out of their vehicles.

was you there when all that went on and seen it?
the wife was just trying to get her husband some help not murdered! I would never call the police they would just murder the person I would be trying to get help for. I thought police were here to protect you, not hurt you.
What if it had been their son or daughter there and they started shooting at the police who the parent that was a police would they have still shot at the son or daughter? or what if it had been your on flesh in blood or dad?

Sue: what if your son or daughter was a policeman facing someone with a gun? What should the police have done? He was brandishing a gun and possibly pointing it at the police. What should they have done, Sue????????? Should they have just walked away or allowed him to shoot????? Get a clue, Sue. They did their job. Oh, and Sue, why not get an elementary grammar book and learn how to write a sentence correctly. YOUR IGNORANCE IS SHOWING.

why dont you answer the question instead of asking a turn around , I know because you dont want to face the fact that it was plain and simple murder, he didnt have a bullet proof vest and why would they need a swat team for one man? He didnt have any hostages. How stupid is that, what the whole police squad cant handle one man? oh yea and a helicopter to help the cops find one man? wow, that had to be hard for them to shot the man point blank in the head and he was probaly drunk so that murdered him plain and simple. They will have to answer to god on judgement day and god knows what really happened you cant lie to god!!

Sue thinka little rational here. Just because cops have "Bullet Resistant" vests doesn't give people the right to shoot at them. And let's look at this from a different point, because obviously you have issues with police. What if "Joe Blow" citizen was to open fire at another person? Would that person be justified in shooting back Sue? And I'm a Christian to I'm glad to know you are, but you are forgetting another thing the lord told us. Not to judge others. And the reason lawenforcment goes to great links to find "armed and dangerous" people, and yes it make your "armed and dangerous" when you fire shots at anyone, is the fact that they may cause harm to others after they depart the scene. Anyone can sit here on the computer or anywere els and monday morning quaterback this situation, but the fact is a person fired at police and they protected themselves and the rest of Hopkins County.

Sue,

You are an idiot. Say you are an average everyday citizen shopping at walmart. Also, lets say you are carrying a concealed handgun legally with a CHL. Now, William Keith White comes into the walmart and draws down on you. He is drunk, has mental problems and is off of his meds. What are you gonna do now? I suppose you should just let that poor man shoot you. Since in your eyes self defense is murder and he "just needs help". Don't remove your weapon and defend your life because he "just needs help". Those Deputies did their jobs and they are going home to their families. The helicopter is just a tool to help the officers go home to their families. Pick up a book moron. Learn the law before you open your mouth. Mr. White might have been off his meds and needed help, that still did not give him the right to fire a handgun at those deputies. You say "murder" and you are somewhat right, it's called "justified homicide". I don't know what you have against law enforcement but you obviously have had the law come down on you before. You need to learn a little something about what you say before you jump on "topix" and start your ignorant rambling.

This is for I support our officers. Not that your opinion means nothing. But the fact that your husband is a police officer shows biased perspective. So since your not simply a third party looking in and you do show favortism then I feel like you should state your opinion but noone should take too much time to read it or form a response for reason previously stated. Until u can put yourself on the outside and look in then you really have no place in this debate. And that's with all due respect. But in my honest opinion I feel the shooting was unjust and uncalled for. There were and always will be a more logical way/aproach other than with a bullet. There is more than one way to sub due a dangerious person and none of those were exercised by our "fine" officers of the law. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they suposed to serve and protect? That for one doesn't seem to be either. Also aren't they suposed to lead by example? Fine example they demonstrated huh?

Sue, you are clueless little twit. You still haven't answered MY question but I'll answer yours.

Q) he didnt have a bullet proof vest and why would they need a swat team for one man?

A) Because he had a gun. Because he wouldn't comply with the officers who initially responded to the well check call. Because he shot at officers. Because he ran into the wooded area with a gun. That is why SWAT was called.

Q) How stupid is that, what the whole police squad cant handle one man?

A) Again, he had a gun. Again, he wouldn't comply with the officers who initially responded to the well check call. Again, he shot at officers. Again, he ran into the wooded area with a gun. Again, that is why SWAT was called for one man.

Q) oh yea and a helicopter to help the cops find one man?

A) Yes, they needed a helicopter because it was dark and he ran into the woods with a gun after he shot at deputies.

This is NOT murder and it's NOT justifiable homicide. It's called deadly force. It is the last method in the Use of Force Continuum used by law enforcement officers. Officers, by law, cannot use any force greater than necessary. For example, if an officer attempts to to arrest someone and they are resisting the officer has several options available:

use wrist/arm lock; use takedown; block/punch/kick; strike suspect; wrestle suspect; Pepper spray; use baton; use firearm.

They cannot go from fighting the subject to shooting the subject. If a subject presents with a gun, the use of force continuum changes. They try to talk the subject down. If they can't talk the subject down and he points a gun at officers wildly waves a gun in the direction of officers, or shoots towards or at an officer the greatest force necessary is to be used. This is why Mr. White was shot. Officers ARE NOT allowed to fire warning shots and officers ARE NOT allowed to shoot to injure. Officers are trained in the method of shoot to kill. They are NOT trained to shoot in the head, so I seriously doubt Mr. White was shot in the head. They are trained to shoot center mass, which is the chest region.

Do you have any other stupid questions that I can answer? If not, Sue, get a life!

Ok I don't know ALL the details in this debate BUT how many times has the same incident occured and officers sub due the perp or suspect or whatever u wna call them without serious injury? But this one incidence there was a death? I find that odd. And honestly do y'all think by talking shit to each other that you will some how sway the person to see things the way you see them? Because I'm sorry but you can state your opinion all day but my perspective will remain the same. And that is it was unjust and uncalled for and no amount of shit talking by ANYONE will make me believe any differently.

A Guy Who Knows Well,

Another Idiot. This type of call happens very often. A welfare check. Yes it happens often. 99.9% of the time the person deputies do the check on do not have a gun and fire on the officers. Again for you.....pick up a book and learn the law. Here is a scenario for you. You live in a quiet neighborhood. Calm, quiet and peaceful. What you don't know is your neighbor has "mental" problems. He has always seemed like a normal everyday run of the mill guy. On a sunny afternoon yourself and your child step through your front door onto your porch. There stands your neighbor, pointing a firearm at you. Your neighbor has been having emotional problems and is off his meds. He shoots at you. You retreat into your house and call 911. The man is shooting at your home and trying to gain entry to harm you. Deputies arrive on scene. The Deputies are forced to kill the person. Do you still think it was uncalled for? Deputies saving your life was unjust? Think before you speak idiot.

The SMF had a gun! He shot at deputies, not once but twice! How is it unjust and uncalled for?
