Interracial Couples?

My family is thinking about moving to Belle Vista, and I am wondering what people's take is on Interracial Couples. My husband is Black and I am white.

Hey Sabby. That would be interesting to know. I'm from CA too but was considering a move to Arkansas soon. I'm not in an interracial relationship but it would still be nice to learn what the overall majority there think about the topic? Can anyone from NW Arkansas tell us?

Bella Vista, unlike most of Arkansas, is overwhelmingly white. The population is also generally older. This means a somewhat more "traditional" community. Having said that, I'd say that most people around here are far more likely to judge you as individuals, rather than based on your relationship.

I don't think a black man in the community would suffer any particular ill treatment,and would be pretty well received if he is seen as responsible, kept his lawn mowed, etc. He would definitely be different, and everyone who is different has some trouble assimilating. You can pretty much forget the movie portrayal of the South. Petty much everyone who is willing to work, take care of his family, and be a responsible citizen is treated with respect.

I live in Rogers, about 10 miles from Bella Vista. I do visit there a lot because of family members who live there. Northwest Arkansas folks have no qualms about race. My niece lived here for many years with a black man and they were treated very cordially. As a matter of fact, since Katrina in Louisiana, a lot of black families (including interracial) have moved here and work here. I truly believe the stigma of interracial marriage is a thing of the past. So, come on over!!

I have lived in arkansas my whole life, bella vista only 8 yrs. Most of the folks here in bella vista are old fashioned but, usually keep to themselves and mind there own buisness. My husband and I are in out thirties and have two kids and we felt like we were the majority when we first moved here. But there are more and more younger folks of all kinds of nationalities moving in Bella Vista now because of the reasonable housing rates and also due to the positions avalable at walmart across the way in Bentonville. I don't think you and your husband would have anything to worry about here. Alot has changed especially with Katrina. More and more interacial couples and different nationalities of all kinds have relocated here and stayed here since Katrina. I wish you all the best where ever you may end up settling down. Lora
