I am a white female in my 40s. I have a small home business and I have attracted some african americans. I have so enjoyed working with these women. Generally because of the community I am in I usually attract white clients. I absolutely do not want to sound racial or improper. Because I simply have not had an opportunity to get to know african american women as friends up until now, I am at a loss as whats ok to say and not to say. What I mean is that I have noticed some very interesting, positive and pleasant cultural differences. I would like to comment on them and ask questions but I am very afraid to offend. I would also like to know how to advertise specifically to attract more of these clients but again I do not want to offend. I would also like to know what to do to suit my business to be more accommadating to african american women.
I would appreciate any advice on these matters. I want to be respectful and friendly. |

Treat them like you want to be treated. As far as business is concerned the same goes but it would be wise to contact someone in the Chamber of Commerce. They do have members of all races or they should. I have many friends who are African American and I know that I appreciate them for who they are and how they treat me. I wouldn't have it any other way.

When you say Treat them like you want to be treated> Of course I have manners and know how to use them but there are things that we do and say that while in our own culture they are fine, they are unacceptable or offensive to another. Like shaking hands may be friendly in one culture but an insult in another. |

Well I am speaking basically. It really isn't that complicated. Again as far as from a business perspective it's best to contact Chamber of Commerce or someonw who is African American who owns a business. They really aren't that different, socially, either. Bring up a conversation about church, family, football, whatever is common for your area.

People who are easily offended are immature.

What do you mean? Just you saying (accommadating african american women)we are not barbaric! The same way you accommadate your friend of other cultures.
