Citizens for the Recall of Councilmember Marti Brown
Dear Fellow Residents of Vallejo:
We are fed up with the actions of Councilmembers Stephanie Gomes and Marti Brown. We are fed up with their lack of leadership to put Vallejo on the right course toward economic self-sufficiency. We are exercising our right as Citizens to seek removal of these officials from office through the Recall Process. Much has been made of our Recall Petition efforts. We want to set the record straight.
First, a new Notice of Intent to Recall Councilmembers Gomes and Brown was served on May 8. This renews the recall process. We are continuing to pursue the recall of Councilmembers Gomes and Brown because of what we see as continued waste and misdirection by the City Council led by efforts by Councilmembers Gomes and Brown.
In April, we properly filed and served the initial Notice of Intent. However, a couple of typos in the published version posed a setback to our effort for better leadership on the Vallejo City Council. Clerical slips on our part, yes; Something that will defeat our efforts, absolutely not.
We accept the slight delay this presented. However, nothing changes the fact that the initial recall was properly served, and properly filed with the City Clerk, complete with a sufficient number of proponents' signatures. State law requires that the Notice of Intent to Submit Recall Petition be published in a newspaper within the jurisdiction of the recalled officer. The City Clerk cited three typos in the notices as published. We are not here to make new case law as to whether the City Clerk must reject a notice with minor typos related to proponents that were no longer part of the recall effort. We applaud the position taken by the City Clerk in fair manner, without undue delay. At least someone in City Hall is taking their job seriously.
