Enough already.
If we want to gamble, we can find plenty of places to go.
I didn't know Michigan had 400 tribes.
At least that's what it seems like.

If Michigan will not help, they could go about 1/2 mile or less and build in IN. I know the area well, be a good location for a casino.

why are people so against casinos? don't you people realize how much business and jobs it would bring to our state that is already in the hole? lets get people employed and back working instead of living off the system...lets get out of staters coming back to our state helping us get back on our feet!!!!

People come to Michigan for many reasons. Fall color tours, hunting, fishing, winter sports, beaches. The more casinos we have around the state, the bigger the attraction. We have more natural beauty than Vegas. Have a casino about every 25 miles and people will have another reason to check out the whole state.Kinda like playing dot to dot. Jobs, tourists, and everything else that goes along with being a " destination state". As and added benafit for area players, more competion means the casinos will have to pay out or lose the player to the next one.

Some people just need something to complain about or campaign against ... I don't know about you, but so far my life has not been impacted one iota by any casino that has been built in Michigan .. now, on the other hand, this stadium sized church that is being built near me .....

I know what you mean. I have a problem with all the rich folks buying up property in my small town and building million dollar homes in the woods. Great for them, but our taxes SHOT UP this last few years like none of us can believe.

At least a casino will bring jobs.

And less services for the increase in taxes too!

First,

The land will have to be put in Federal Trust before anything can move forward with a Casino. A state compact should/will need to be signed also.

This is going to take MANY years to get up and running, IF it happens at all.

And like many others have said, if you don't like it, don't go! I have been in TWO Casinos in Michigan since they have opened. I have no interest in them. No one is forcing you to go.

We have no great interest in gambling either... but the restaurants are usually really good AND inexpensive. See...? Fun for everyone :)

I think this would really help alot of people including myself. My husband has lost his job of 5 years and can't even get a job a McDonalds. Can you imagine how many people can be put to work?? I am very excited about the prospect of a casino right out my backyard. As for all the people saying that it is a bad idea I bet you all have great jobs and are not hurting. Yes people will go there to gamble of course. You need to be responsible. As with drinking and smoking. If all you goodie two shoes think that a casino is wrong then try and get other things ban like smoking, drinking, even snacks because all of those will make you die!!

When will people stop trying to legislate morality??? If you don't want to go, do what I do...had an opportunity to go in October with a Professional women's group I belong to....I chose not to go since I didn't have the money to lose...how about we promote personal responsibility a little more and try to tell others how to live a little less, eh??

You're right. You can't walk 500 feet in this state without bumping into a Keno machine. If you don't want to gamble, then don't gamble.

Guess I should have posted as "Dave Ramsey" LOL!

A casino will bring in jobs, sure. But I am not looking at the bright side. Gambling could bring a rise in prostitution and drugs. Sturgis has been a boring, clean, family-friendly town for years. We hardly even have any bars. I don't think that we will improve our quality of life here by bringing in cheap, tacky casinos.

These people promise a few million to Sturgis in revenues: 4% of their profit. Good grief, just think how much they will be taking from the area! I realize Sturgis needs jobs, but I would rather give these particular ones to some other town.
