Why only texting?? It seems to me cell phones ought to be banned altogether! They are distracting any way you look at it. The best talks I had with my parents were while we were driving/riding in the car. I believe they have their uses but never in a car unless you are stranded and need help. If you need to tell someone you are running late or ask directions, etc. pull over into a parking lot. STOP--THEN TALK!!

I agree with Peg. they say people learn by example. What kind of example is it that everytime I see a police officer in a car, they are on a cell phone just talking away. Mainly its been female officers. That sends no sense of responsibility to the public and if thats the kind of standards set by law enforcement, there is no chance of ever getting anything accomplished whether they pass a law or not. Cell phones should only be in one place in a car.....in the glovebox! Thats what their intended use was is for emergencies anyway wasn't it? Also, personally, I find that people using cell phones in businesses and place to eat, malls or where ever very irritating. Just what makes someone with a dang cell phone have the right to talk atr the top of their lungs with 50 people around hearing every word.....wise up....nobody cares about your conversation nor do they want to hear it. They banned cigs in places so why not another issue thats been proven to cause accidents and also..... death in some cases. All I can say is its about time something gets done about it....but if you can't control the law that supposed to enforce it, you surely are not going to control anyone else. Time will tell whether its all hype or not.

Texting ?? Yes I say ban it, but driving ang talking on a phone is no different than talking to a passenger in the car. I am getting tired of law makers thinking we are to stupid to do anything!! Give me break!!

I am definitely against texting while driving. But, I am opposed to restricting cell phones. There is a big difference in texting and talking. I have a very large family and there are times I need to answer questions or sometimes ask questions.
