Taking a ride through the land of lost homes

“The reality is simple. This is going to be a great tool to get buyers back into the marketplace.”

The yellow-and-orange bus would stand out anywhere even without the giant letters proclaiming its purpose: RepoHomeTourChica go.com. A handful of buyers have showed up to board the 12-seat shuttle parked at ... via Chicago Tribune

I don't see how this is wrong. Why should the home sit around and deteriorate? That happened a few door down from me. Nice family, nice house. The people who lived their left suddenly and a "bank owned" signed went up in the window. The home sat vacant for months and over the winter pipes burst, the back door was open and wildlife moved in. A real estate agent friend told me that the house was trashed and had graffiti on the walls and lots of damage. How likely is this home going to sell now? I blame the bank for it's condition, not the previous owners!

“I figure you can't lose with real estate.”

Yeah. I’m guessing that’s what the previous owners thought, too. But of course, that was totally different. They just weren’t smart, savvy, experienced investors.

“It would be my first investment.”

Er.

Well. I fail to see how this can possibly go wrong!

This is a great way to get people back into these homes. The longer the homes stay vacant and the more of these homes there are in neighborhoods the more the property values in the neighborhoods go down. But it makes me nervous to hear people approaching real estate as an investment - it's not unless you are a real estate investor and you do your math to make sure it's going to have a better return than alternate investments. Otherwise it's a place to live.

Well Lucid Realty, guess who went after "investors" with all kinds of "great deals" on real estate? You guess it right, REAL ESTATE BROKERS!! Now, they are cashiers in Winn Dixie.

You are correct, and we do not hold the industry in high regard for that. That's why we came into the industry - to turn things around.
