ROTFLMAO!

"Jim Peters, an FAA spokesman, said if the city does not stop people from using the parking lot the FAA will cut off discretionary funding to the airport and could ultimately halt all funding. Sikorsky Airport regularly receives FAA money for improvements and other uses."

Go right ahead, Jim! And THANKS!

"Stratford Mayor James R. Miron on Thursday said the FAA is wrong in trying to claim ownership of the parking lot, and that a title search has proven the town owns the property.'Some bureaucrat at FAA is misinformed. I will not be threatened, bullied or intimidated. They will see us in court,' he said."

It certainly couldn't be that Jim Miron or Rich Buturla are the "misinformed" ones.... This is yet another clear indication that this deal should be put on the back burner. Taxpayer funds shouldn't be spent on a court battle - especially if there is a good possibility it's a no-win situation. Oh, I'm sure Buturla is just salivating at the thought of the legal fees this could create for him and his firm. Enough already!

Be careful what you wish for, the airport owns quite a lot of land outside of the fence, if they wanted to they could cause more problems.

If the airport stops being an airport then Bridgeport owes the FAA millions for grant money, do you think Bridgeport would risk that kind of exposure for money they don't have?

Maybe they should sell it to Stratford for $1 instead of trying to steal more land from Stratford?

It would make a great location for TAXABLE homes and businesses.

Great, take one of the last open spaces and fill it up with houses.

1. There are plenty of houses for sale in Stratford already, nobody's buying.

2. New businesses? hello!! this is CT, the most anti-business climate in the area. Who is going to move here so they can pay more for less and lose money? There's lots of business space open in Stratford, lets use that before building more.

We don't need more houses in Stratford, if anything there should be a channel cut through the marsh and a bridge put up and Lordship can secede from Stratford.

Now THAT is a great idea! I'd vote for you to be the very first mayor of Lordship! That is truly brilliant!

I'm sorry....I have to laugh...Can anything be done in Stratford without controversy? Holy crap.

A parking lot in Stratford, maybe or maybe not owned by city of Bridgeport via the airport, may or maybe not actually owned by Stratford. The FAA threatening Stratford that Bridgeport will owe the FAA money as if Stratford cares. The mayor and his crony, the town attorney, sounding like tough guys telling the FAA to bring it on.

Come on...you have to get a chuckle out of all of this.

What I see here is, Miron is so hell bent on selling this land for 10 mil. Why? Is there a large deficit looming he needs to cover? Like Ganim did with beardsley park.
And, I know the airport does own that piece of land. That was done for possible airport expansion in the 60's. You can not hide truth and history.
And, the millons the city has received over the years? I haven't seen any improvements to date that tells me the money was spent on the airport. I've only seen decay.
Let this go Miron you dope. You've opened up a can of worms.
Can't you do anything right?

I have to laugh at those people who go on and on about Lordship...crappy little ranch houses for low-income workers at the end of a salt marsh...This is what you hang your hat on?? The historic and beautiful center of the town is up the road. Focus on that!

I also live in the Historical area but take a long walk around. We have some homes that are in really bad shape also. I feel each part of Stratford has homes that are well kept and others that are not. We can't possibly single out one area. I love the area I am in but at times I get very frustrated with how some people have let their place go. If you want detailed homes I will point you in their direction. You take a walk and let me know. They may be low income at the end of the marsh but they have a roof over their heads. Please try walk in someone else's shoes. Be greatful for what you have but try not to be critical of people who have less than you. I will probably never leave the area I am in, by my choice, but with the economy if things got bad and I had to leave I would gladly take a place there to have a roof over my head. Just remember in the Historical District we have many rooming houses and a few are registered (if you catch my drift). Not all Lordship people think they are above. They have the same problems as we do.

The problem is that when the price of houses go down, then people who can "marginally" afford to buy a house (not unlike myself) get a mortgage. In most cases I don't think people "let their house go" because they are lazy or cheap, I think it's because they can't afford to keep it up to everyone's standards. I do the best I can with my house, and it does look pretty nice, but this year I couldn't afford to do any planting or outside improvements. I'm lucky I can maintain it at all.

Emeral ~ that's the difference between "old" Lordship and "new" Lordship. Kinda like a new style Peyton Place...... ;>D

I lived there when I was born for a few years and then returned when I was 17. In between, spent much of my life there. It's certainly not like it was then. A little "stuff factor" there now.

But, back to the issue, Miron and Buturla need to BTFO...(back the .... off) on this one and forget this sale. I'm not saying never, but it should be back-burnered without costs to the taxpayers. Because they screwed up, we shouldn't have to pay for legal costs because they got sent with their tails between their legs and they need to save face.

I have to agree. There are SO many houses for sale in Stratford, and remember.....while they are empty no one is keeping them up. There are also lots of empty businesses. It's so difficult to own a small business these days, I give anyone credit if they have the guts to try it. You have to sell a LOT of coffees to pay the huge rents these landlords are charging.

I'm with you on that.... We're hoping for a project a summer outside, but it's all slow going....LOL

It's not always easy to keep up with the Joneses, so I don't. You come to see me, you're always welcome; you come to check out my house, go away! LOL We all do what we can with what we have available.

Emerald, I am with you on your thoughts, it's just so frustrating to see people trash where they live and ruin it for everyone else. It doesn't require a big salary to pick up garbage in front of your home or residence. It is pure disrespect of ones' self and others. Beautiful open spaces are enjoyed by all - and they shouldn't be purchased by those with more income. Money doesn't mean you have more cents (sense)
