Justices of the peace split on civil unions

Personal religious beliefs have no place in civil. This reminds me of the Justices of the Peace who refused to marry mixed race couples. Those who have a religious problem should indeed resign and do something else.

I am a Justice of the Peace in Branford. I have performed several civil unions and they are usually more emotional than a regular wedding. For some reason it seems like it means so much more to the couple participating in a civil union than in a wedding. Perhaps because it has taken such a fight just to get the point of a civil union. Many of those couples are holding out for marriage. I really think that marriage for these couples is not far down the road. I am Catholic but I believe that God made us all. If we say that gay marriages are wrong, than we are saying that God made a mistake. I for one don't believe that.

People who are against "marriage" but in favor of "civil union" or "Domestic Partnership" many times don't realize that there are over 1,ooo differences under the laws of protection. Most people who disagree with term "marriage" are being led in thought from the reliogion they are following not the civil license it is.
