what a fabulous idea!......wouldn't they also use the land which is on the same side of connors lane as the high school?......couldn't the public works dept. work with students, teachers and volunteers to establish the edu-farm?..... also a great chance for public works to get back in favor with residents.....since good old louis kerkes retired over 20 years ago, public works has gone straight downhill.....no pride in workmanship, only a desire to get paid as much as possible for doing as little as possible before collecting a big, fat pension..... from this edu-farm, they (public works) might actually cut the grass and groom fields the day BEFORE games, not the day after.....

don't forget the community garden part of this. grow your own food. healthier, better for the environment and less expensive.
with the economy and fuel prices going the way they are, we may all have to go back to the earth to be able to eat and survive.

This sounds like a great idea. I hope it's not shut down to suit snooty North end residents.

Thats why they are spending 2 mil on a plastic/rubber field that only a few kids can use.

news to me.....you're probably talking about bunnell....oh well, let 'em "turf" it....should free up public works to honor the late louis kerkes and return longbrook/penders field to the glory days....for years, state tournament baseball championships were played on that field....lately, you need a bazooka to get a ground ball through the infoed grass...if it weren't for that young, skinny fella (a non-public works guy) who's labored on that field for the last few years, the baseball field would be unplayable...

Mr Stratford

So the town pays a large sum of money to by the property so the neighbors won't end up with a high density sub-division and some of them are complaining about the school using it for farming and outdoor classroom! Maybe the town can move the transfer station there instead. See how they like that.

Mr. Stratford, the article I read shows 2 out of 3 quoted residents in favor of the farm. I'm a resident in that area and support the idea as long as it is well managed, and I look forward to plans getting underway.

I think the idea for Purhala's Farm is great. It is exactly what I would plan for it. I remember getting fresh vegetables after school from Mr. Purhala. It will be a great educational experience for students.

Now when does the South End get its Town purchased and maintained farm???
All we get is low-income housing and that whack job O'Neil causing racial tension.

It just seems that some people can never be pleased. I think the Agri Ed use is a decent use of the land, although I personally would rather see an athletic sports complex for the high school be built.

Maybe the Govt. will purchase it for open space & conservation. -No wait, they already did that. Maybe we set up Shakespeare "North End" repertoir theater. Another Stratford dustbowl is in the works folks. -I'm sure John Pirhala is doing barrel rolls over this.

Good Idea

I think it's a good idea. Gardening is great for kids... it teaches them how to grow wonderful things from tiny seeds and some effort. That's how life goes in other respects too. We get what we sow out of life. It also helps kids work as a team and share the joy of their work. I hope this comes to fruition.

I think the farm should be given back to the Pirhala family.

This just shows you the degree to which Stratford is so messed up and why. You cant come up with a good idea in this town without someone making a huge deal out of it. This is the real reason nothing gets done in this town. That property is a waste and this is a great idea to use the property. It would look much nicer than the run down property that is there now, would provide education, and a community garden. These are the things Stratford needs to become a better community and to compete with other area towns!
