Multi-motorcycle crash on I-90 ties up traffic

Ride in a tight cluster like that in a car and it's called TAILGATING.

Seems everyone forgot the safe following distance rules???

They were all probably on their way to Sturgis, South Dakota or on a fund raiser of some sort. They usually do that for children but who knows. Yes they do drive in clusters but that is so they can talk to each other over the noise of the bikes. Hopefully no fatalities.

Conflicting reports on the number of bikes from 25 to 60.

Riding in groups is dangerous, especially when side by side. Maybe law enforcement needs to apply the "following too close" law to these people.

I have been riding for 30 years, and still would not choose to ride as some of these groups do, just asking for trouble.

Wish a quick recovery to all those involved and hope they learn from this.

So that means you never exceed the posted speed limit? As that is set for a safe limit for that particular roadway, and you slow down in inclement weather as the speed limits are set for perfect road conditions.

So what is it then? They ride in groups so they can hear each other over their loud pipes? Or do they ride in groups so they can impede traffic by not leaving room for people to legally pass them? Does "cars try to get in it at a very unsafe distance from the rest of the bikes" mean the same unsafe distance the bikes are riding at? Bikes must obey the SAME traffic laws as cars. Ride like an idiot, die like an idiot. May I take out an insurance policy on you?

Most, including myself, ride in a staggered formation with the standard 2-3 second following distance. Cars are dangerous mixed among the bikes because, they make sudden moves and place themselves too close to the bikes both in front and behind them (less than 2-3 seconds). If you are driving properly on the interstate, a pack of motorcycles of any side shouldn't impede your travel at all.

I haven't noticed cars making sudden moves any more than bikers making sudden moves. I drive both. I have not had an accident in any vehicle. I obey the traffic laws whenever driving. I do not have a problem with a car overtaking me and moving right, it's their legal right. Idiots drive anything. I've seen squids* doing 100 mph on one wheel. I've seen more idiots than I care to remember doing various unbelievable things in cars. These five were obviously not riding safely if they couldn't avoid sparking down the road together.

A a reckless dardevil biker who enjoys doing dangerous things. Mostly in shorts and sandals. When you come upon the accident there are arms and legs everywhere.

Just so everone knows how and why the crash happened, there was a car that was swerving in and out of traffic and cut the one of the leaders off he had to slam on his brakes which in turn made the rest of them hit the breaks some with nowhere to go.
