Suffolk County lost another good volunteer fireman, most of the volunteers are the same dedicated people like Charlie. There are only very few volunteers who are "bad apples".God bless you Charlie and may God have you before the devil knows your dead.

With tears in my eyes and hurt in my heart, I hope Charlie is at peace and in no pain. God bless his family.........to Mr. Curry....I HOPE YOU ROT IN HELL! Were the drugs worth it?!?! You selfish POS! To anyone who has something nasty to say about motorcyclists on Long Island..... just keep your mean comments to yourself for a change. This was NOT his fault! There are plenty of us who ride Harleys, Yamahas, Rice Rockets, etc...safely, and thats exactly what he was doing. Unfortunately, the so called man behind the four wheels was not only thinking of himself, but now has ruined a family. RIP Charlie!

Why does it matter that he is a firefighter? Would Newsday report it if he were just a plumber? It's one thing if he died in the line of duty, but this was a guy killed on a motorcycle.

Sad story. People that post nasty things on stories like this are just complete douchebagss. There is a time and place for humor, but come on. To the friends and family I am sorry for your loss.

As a fellow graduate from Northport High School, I am deeply saddened to hear that Chuck has been killed...my thoughts are with his family...
To reply to the comment above, yes I think Newsday would have reported on him if he was a plumber, especially considering the state of the driver who hit & killed him...
...Chuck's service to his community makes him a noteworthy citizen & his untimely death deserves acknowledgement. May peace be with his family.

It WAS being reported before his name was released and BEFORE it was known he was a firefighter. You are just looking for trouble Average Joe. Maybe you should get off your @$$ a do some volunteer work somewhere!

God has blessed the soul of Charles Varese with eternal peace with Him. No words will adequately express the sorrow and gratitude decent people feel for the Varese family. My only hope is that Mr. Curry will meet a judge who will justly punish him for his crime of murder, because it was NO LESS than that.

What a tragic tragic thing! My heart really goes out to the family. A senseless death such as this is always a horror, but to lose such an exceptional young man heightens the loss and is just so incredibly awful. On a more legislative note, I am so revolted by reading story after story of drunk/impaired drivers exacting sorrow and loss upon others by their thoughtless and irresponsible behaviors. We really do need to crack down and impose ZERO TOLERANCE for such vehicular violations. There simply is no excuse and jail time doesn't bring back a loved one lost. Let this be yet ANOTHER call for our electeds to sharpen this social must! Bless the soul and family of this fine young man.

Big problem with the United State: we over idolize people and make them more important then ourselves. My sympathies to his family.

Unbelievable wrote: <quoted text> What a sad individual you are. WTF is wrong with you and what went wrong in you life to make you such an a$$wipe. Condolences to the family. Please disregard all of the negative commets that have been placed in the past couple of days. They are just idiots that want to see how many people reply to them. I guess they get off on it! Regardless what kind of motorcycle he was riding, whether it be a crotchrocket or cruiser bike, judging from what positive things have been said about Chuck, I'm sure he was doing the right thing. For god sakes, he was on his way to work. Maybe some of you negative comment idiots, should be out there working instead of sitting at your computer screens looking for this kind of attention. Once again, condolences to the family, friends and Fire Dept for your loss. Newsday, you need to get on these people and do your part! Last I knew this was the United Stare of America and we have a constitution guaranteeing freedom of speech and expression. So to ask Newsday to do it part, just what part do you have in mind?
