As a taxpayer and someone that raised three children, I too, question the free pre-school/daycare. Although the children are not pre-school age anymore, we never had this free care.

I don't even know when it started. Just seven years ago it was not available.

The real issue here is the city's misuse of the reverse 911 calls. It's not about money, but misuse of the system to use for your own advantage. Freddy used it and made every single school in the city call all parents, OF ALL AGES, and told them to support their school and show up to the Board of Alderman meeting. I received two calls, one from elementary and one from the high school. Why would the high school principle be calling students homes for pre-school? That was under the direction of Freddy to intimidate Michael Marchese.

I don't even pick up the phone or rush to listen to voicemail when I see City of Everett calling anymore.

Alderman Marchese is an Alderman in this city ans has a right to ask questions and get them answered, without a dog and pony show.

Every time the school department is involved, it's always a circus with 300 people packing the room.

I have from this year alone 20 ridiculous phone calls saved..........personal - political use from the mayors office, mayors office telephone at 2:10pm on a Thursday, etc..... and now the school department has jumped on this bandwagon. I'm making an inquiry because no other city and town does it this bad.

I got a call from Mr. Baldi the night before the Alderman's meeting asking us to go to City Hall and protest. My son is in high school. Why is Mr. Baldi getting involved in pre-school issues?

I live in Mike Marchese's ward and I am glad that he is questioning it. It's good to see someone looking out for the taxpayers for a change. I don't understand why a high school principal is making phone calls about pre-school? I don't want my taxes paying for free pre-school. If these people want their kids going to school at 3 years old they should send them to a private pre-school. Kindergarten is good enough. Pre-screening is done beforehand and any special needs will be caught and worked with at that time.

Marchese has the RIGHT TO QUESTION any city expense. People from other communities are using this FREE pre school program and Everett residents are paying the bill.

Good for Michael Marchese for asking questions. It's too bad that our thin-skinned imperial superintendent doesn't want to answer them.

And yes, I would bet my bottom dollar that Steve Baldi was ordered to get parents up to that meeting. It's funny how they can be outraged about a few questions about the expense of preschool...but where was the outrage when the superintendent stole air conditioners and used school employees to work on his house?

That's all fine and good BPS and I think it's fantastic for four year olds, but we could save so much money eliminating the three year old program, it is not needed! Some of these kids are still in diapers, let them be home where they belong. The newspaper said that this program allowed parents to work, well unless they are working an hour a day, there is no way that could happen.

How can you say that a four (can you count..one, two, three, four) year old could possibly concentrate on anything presented to him, much less contain it in his mind, until his next toy is in front of him ?.... I'm sorry, but you people are a bunch of sick puppies !

Though questioning the cost and usage of any city run program is a legimate issue. The validity of having a preschool program should be based on research and accountabilty. It is very clear that early childhood education is an important part of the child's life and any head start you can give a child is essential.
To Jeffrey there are many three and four year olds that retain all of what they are being taught. Maybe people should actually step into the classrooms and see the English Language Art, Mathematics, Science, Technology and Engineering, History, Health and Art skills that are being taught yes to three and four year olds maybe this issue can truly be about the accountabilty of who uses the program and not the cost as public school is suppose to be free. My children no longer attend Everett Public schools but that doesn't mean my taxes shouldn't be used to support it based on the age of the student using it.

A baby sitter costs 10 to 15 dollars an hour today. Everett pre school for 3 year olds costs NOTHING. They are coming here from surrounding communities for FREE baby sitter services. Even Everett citizens will "wake up" to this one.

Pre school is absolutley needed now adays. Granted some may think its babsitting; however with the new curriculums utilized in the school departments in the Commonwealth. Children are expected to be reading by Kindergarten.
This is not the same as when we went to school. Its totally different.
Most school districts do charge; however, the democgraphics in this city dictate that we offer it for free. Its the only way to assure that our MCAS scores keep rising and our kids are competitve.
Right, wrong, or indifferent, life is more competitive and we need to keep up. I applaud our school board for being forward thinking and not waiting for the state and feds to mandate this program.
WE ARE REIMBURSED FOR OVER 80% of these funds. And I bet even those bitching about it here will bering there children and/or grandchildren

Does that mean if we have pre school, that the kids, today, will be able to add one and one, tomorrow ?... That would be an advancement !

Soon Freddy will be demanding Everett citizens pay for PRE-BIRTH education of children and PRE-BIRTH education of mothers. There is no end to his greed for Everett taxpayer dollars.

Right. Sooooooo, what are you talking about? We all understand that you don't like this program. And it is obvious that you ascribe to the fox news style of discussion -- just keep ranting and worry about little things like facts and reason later -- but is your opinion based on anything other than your own delusions? It would be nice if you would actually substantiate anything you say, but at this point it seems we'd expecting too much. Maybe we should aim for just making sense?
