SBI to investigate death of Stokes County inmate

From my understanding this man was in lock down due to a trach. He had a hard time breathing and had not been in previous trouble but was told that he was going to go to prison for a long time. At 45 and no previous trouble, I wonder if there was a way to defer prison for drug help. Forsyth County and many other counties has a drug court, that will defer proscecution on successful completion of rehap and good behavior. Stokes does not and our county is seeing a lot of our youths ages 18-25 being sentence to prison, without considering alternatives. Our goal should be to try to rehab these kids and close the door to prison first and close the revolving door.

I wish that the sheriffs office would do something to those kids that are out here selling to those under age kids and bringing them down I am sick of seeing this happen under the nose of the county and city cops. I want to know why they do nothing get it those selling to under age kids. Also there are stores in town that sell beer to underage kids and they do nothing about it. I guess if it was there kids and something happens to them like overdose or killed in a car wreck they may do something then...But maybe or not

to sick: you are so right, Stokes County has a tremendous problem with people coming into it from other cities, bringing crack, opium, pain pills. It is being pushed onto our children, who may be weak, hooking them and causing them to commit crimes to support their habits that they would otherwise not do. Our Stokes County children ages 17 - 25 are going to PRISON!! Stokes does not have a drug deferment program that would stay the sentence and allow them to get professional help. We need a drug court!! We need a drug treatment center that would offer serviceS free of charge, have these kids report to a judge once a month to show progress!! If after this and the kids prove that they can turn their life around, defer prison!! These kids will be making choices that affect the older generation one day, Lets help them!! The drug pushers are crafty and are hard to catch, Our county and city police departments, please put more effort into finding out who,what and why. Who is the supplier, why are our youths committing crimes, what can we do to help turn this young person around. For our young people,lets try to close the door to prison first before we have to deal with the revolving door of prison. A drug deferment would bennefit our children, keep us tax payers from higher taxes, it cost more to house our young people in prison than it would to have this program, Stokes County Judges and District Attorney help us out, implement this program for Stokes County, sentence our young people to drug rehab, jobs,
trade school, GED's, community service and have them take responsibilty and make restitution. Stokes County citizens pay attention, even if it is not your child who is using drugs. Check out who is running for judgeship, district attorney, county/city council find out where they stand and the performance that they have displayed thus far while they have been in office, if it is not acceptable, vote them out!! Take time to go to county/city meetings, go to the court house and see how many young people you see there for underage drinking, and crimes that they committed to support the habit that a drug dealer pushed on them. The addicts and their loved ones are suffering mentally and physically while the drug dealers are living a comfortable life and have a higher standard of living than most of us hard working citizens! WE NEED PEOPLE WHO CARE, JUDGES WHO HAVE THE OPTION OF DRUG COURT, DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S WHO CAN SUGGEST DRUG COURT AS THE FIRST OPTION AND NOT FIRST PUSH FOR PRISON! LET'S GIVE THEM All AN EQUAL CHANCE FIRST DESPITE WHO THEY ARE, WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE OR THERE ECONOMICAL BACKGROUNDS. LET'S HELP THEM MAKE THEIR WAY, GUIDE THEM AND KEEP THEM IN OUR PRAYERS. OUR COUNTY IS HURTING IN A BAD WAY, WE LACK JOBS, HAVE NO PROGRAMS OR ENTERTAINMENT FOR OUR YOUNG PEOPLE. STOKES COUNTY IS IN NEED OF A NEW PLAN AND NEEDS TO WORK A PLAN. OUR FIRE DEPARTMENTS ARE LAYING OFF NEEDED WORKERS DUE TO BEING UNDER BUDGETED,SENIOR PROGRAMS ARE BEING CUT.OUR SOCIAL SERVICES ARE NOW OVERWORKED,UNDER BUDGETED. STOKES COUNTY IS A BEAUTIFUL COUNTY, IT HAS CARING CITIZENS WHO WILL COME TO THE AID OF THEIR NEIGHBORS BUT OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING FOR IT CITIZENS! IT IS PAST TIME FOR A NEW PLAN AND NEW ELECTED OFFICIALS WHO HAVE THE BURDEN AND MISSION TO HELP STOKES COUNTY TO GROW, BRING NEW JOBS, AND OFFER OUR KIDS MORE.

I agree with you on all the above. But we have a big problem in stokes county with the local cops it seems they want to protect the drug dealers....tell me why???? they have been told who is dealing and using and they turn their heads...but I guess if it were their kids it would be different.

they inform on others so they are let go to do as they please. if it were selling to their kid and they new it they would do something else.what they don't know is there kids are getting drugs and getting them from someone who they know is selling and have let go/

you can't blame the cops i agree that we have a horrible problem in stokes county with drugs. alot of times the cops hands are tied by nc laws and the justice system. granted some may turn a blind eye but you can't group everyone together

i don't group every one together. but i know a family whos let go repeatedly for everything from possession to d w i.something that would get anyone else 6 years gets them 30 days and they don't have to stay in the hole 30 days ...something is wrong with this pick.

you are correct , its the judges that are to blame . The cops do their job , then the judge lets them go . its sad. pittiful excuse for judges in this county.

I know people like that as well and it is wrong. But in our messed up world backdoor deals are made everyday. Is it right no but i would love to know how to stop it. Im a firm advocate of fairness to everyone and everyone lives under the same set of rules. But here in the real world its not what ou know but who you know that matters most
