Is there anything for kids to do in Walnut Cove? The answer is yes, but it seems that if you are not in the "loop" it's hard to find out about them. So here are some links that you may not know about
www.walnutcovell.com = baseball/softball
www.walnutcovewildcats.com = football/cheerleading
www.youthoutside.org = hunting and fishing for kids

Just wanted everyone to know that even though the 3 signups for football and cheerleading have passed, there is still time to sign up! Please visit www.walnutcovewildcats.com and e-mail one of our board memebers for information. We made the playoffs last year and are looking forward to another great season!

Should'nt there be more stuff for the kids to do other than sports? They have sports in school. If they want to do sports, they can sign up for sports in school. There should be stuff like a big park for kids to be able and go get exercise, be able to have cook outs and spend time with the family, a skate park for the kids to go ride thier skateboards to get all the kids off the streets from the harm of getting hit or killed, etc.. There should be stuff other than a sport that is offered by the school system for kids to do in this town. From my whole life living here, there has never been nothing for the kids to do here, other than a game room. Thats was in my childhood and it just did not work for them. Put all the heads together at the good ole town hall to figure out something..OOOPS, lets not do that, nothing will ever happen. Its gonna take all the parents to come together and figure out something for the kids to do and proceed with it themselves. Come on community, lets do this.

It would be nice if Walnut Cove could figure out how to get a YMCA. Wonder if anyone has ever looked into that.

I started a forum on YMCA, that is the perfect answer to something to do in Walnut-Cove. Anyone with any connections to the Y needs to ask how we get one.

If you look on my YMCA forum you see that not-fooled turned it into an argument about the town not doing what she wants them to do. If we want a YMCA we need to talk to the Y and talk to Homer and get something going. I will call the Y and Homer this week and see what we need to do and I will let everyone know what is said.

With a population of about 1,600, and low density in the surrounding areas, it will be tough to fund a Y in Walnut Cove. You could go climb Hanging Rock a couple of times, there's something to do, and a workout too.

What I posted are sports outside of school.
What we need is a safe place for kids to go. If I could get the backing by the community I would build an arcade/bowling alley for the community. Few problems there (including land being "land locked") and funding.
If I could get an arcade and bowling alley going I would be happy to add on later to include a pool, go-karts, and etc.

We will never get a YMCA because King has one and they consider that close-enough to WC.

farm,

Please give me a call on Thursday or Friday of this week. I would love to discuss this with you and work with our Mayor and Board to see what we can accomplish with this. This is very much needed in Walnut Cove!

Don't forget there is also a dance studio in walnut cove. They participate in the parades, do a local performance of the Nutcracker, have performed for the half time show for the Harlem Globetrotters, Stokes Stomp and much more. check it out.

A dance studio is a nice thing to have, but there needs to be some activity for kids who don't dance or play traditional sports.

How the hell is walnut-cove ever gonna have anything , when all they do is bitch and whine. The whole town cant stop running their mouths long enough to have anything. If they did have a place kids could go , all it would ever be was 1 big argument , about everything . This town will never work together and its the people that live in the town that are the problem. They want to sit around and blame every one else.So NO walnut -cove will probably never have places for the kids or anything except banks or resturants. The fat cats need somewhere to eat and store there money.

The funny thing is, this town use to be a happening place. Bowling alley, movie theatre, hotels, and everything else. What the hell happened? I know. The leadership we have right now dont have the balls to stand up and speak their opinion. Put someone in power that does not worry about filling their pocket up with money and put someone in that wants to make this town a benefit to everyone including the kids and not only the old farts that sit around and watch andy griffith and catch a bite to eat aftwards. This town is very depressing and no wonder why we have a high number of suicides. We need to pull a group together to override the town officials and take it higher to get things going around here.

a rec center (doesn't have to be as big as a YMCA), with art & music activities would be a great thing. It would help bring out some hidden talents and give the kids something to do that will provide mind nourishing activities instead of just physical ones. How about a skatepark, even a park? There are so many grants that this town could take advantage of and if the town leaders would cconsider taking some time and really research some of these opportunities, then they mind find alot of resources to pull together for Walnut Cove. I love my town...been here since birth and it is sad to see so much tension and unwillingness to drop political sides and get together. I don't know where this quote came from but it applies to the current state of the town....."There is nothing hindering this situation except the persistent refusal of some to accept the truth or analyze the causes of the current situation." Love to all and best wishes to the young children who will be our leaders of tomorrow!!
