Not if it is not taxable income according to law.

It is taxable and she will be paying taxes on it. It's part of the law. If she doesn't list it, it's on her, but I'm sure the government has a record of all the refunds.

Michelle Obama’s February trip to Aspen with her daughters was described as “low-key” at the time, possibly because it was her 16th vacation in three years, according to reports.

Here is what the Aspen Daily News related at the time, via USA Today:

Several people have known about the “low-key” vacation, with the Secret Service in town for the past few days scoping out places for the family to relax and enjoy what the resort has to offer.

Pitkin County Sheriff Joe DiSalvo confirmed that he has met with the Secret Service and has loaned seven deputies to help protect the first lady and her family.

“This is not a state visit.… I think she has the right and privilege to be able to escape from public life,” he said.“It’s a privilege to have the first lady here.”

A spokesperson for Michelle Obama elaborated:“The first lady and the Obama daughters are on a private family trip to Colorado. Personal expenses are being paid for by the Obamas.”
Judicial Watch: Michelle Obamas Low Key Aspen Vacation With Her Daughters Cost Taxpayers Roughly $83,000

Judicial Watch, the watchdog organization that revealed the cost of Michelle Obama’s trip to Africa to be roughly $424,142, and the cost of her trip to Spain roughly $467,000, is now reporting that the first family’s “low-key” trip to Aspen cost the taxpayer $83,182.99.

Judicial Watch elaborates:

-The total cost for the Aspen ski vacation was at least $83,182.99.
-The bill for the U.S. Secret Service, including accommodations at the Fasching Haus deluxe condominium and the Inn at Aspen, was $48,950.38.
-The cost for the flight, per official DOD published hourly rates, was $22,583.70. Food and miscellaneous on-flight items cost $235.44. The cost for rental cars totaled $6,442.23.

Key details, including flight records for the Secret Service detail and the names of individuals who accompanied Mrs. Obama on the vacation, were redacted from the documents with the exception of two staffers. One was Meredith Koop, her personal assistant and style advisor, the other was her scheduler Kristen Jarvis.

“No wonder we had to file a lawsuit in federal court and wait six months to get basic information on Michelle Obama’s luxury Aspen vacation,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

“The costs of the Obama family ski weekend are staggering. These high-priced luxury vacations, and the lack of transparency about them, are beginning to seem like an abuse of office.”

Yep and he made good money. He threw papers before he went to work at the Air Base and when he got off work. He did this when we had our first son and since he never had parents around that took an interest in his schooling and activities he wanted it different for his kids. So He did what it took at the time to get it done. Now you see a problem with this!

Hey, remember all those times we were told President Obama was focused like a laser (or something) on jobs? Yeah, we remember that too. Say, it must be awfully difficult to address the nation’s unemployment when, you know, your jobs council hasn’t met in six months.

Yes, you read that correctly: the president‘s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness hasn’t met since January 17.

“Coming off the worst quarter of job-creation in two years, and with the worst jobs record of any president in modern history, it’s clear President Obama has failed to live up to his promises,” said Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul.

“Yet President Obama is listening more to his campaign donors and special interest groups than to his own jobs council. That makes perfect sense for a president more concerned with re-election than getting the economy back on track,” she added.

With unemployment at 8.2 percent (and real unemployment much worse than that), some may think it rather odd that the president can find time to do back-to-back-to-back-to-back fundraisers and play his 100th round of golf but not find time to meet with this jobs panel.

But seriously, with the jobs situation as bad as it is, why hasn’t the president met with his much-touted panel? As it turns out, according to a new POLITICO report, there may be several reasons for this:

1) Considering that many of the council members are major business executives, some of them don’t want to meet during the campaign season for fear of appearing partisan.

2) A few members on the panel have declined to endorse President Obama and, in return, President Obama has declined to endorse their recommendations. What we‘re trying to say is that it’s like a cafeteria during recess and one kid won’t talk to another because their feelings are hurt (or something).

3) Some of the panel members have at some point been involved in outsourcing [you know, the thing Team Obama claims is literally the worst thing in the world].

“The thing is supposed to be bipartisan, so a lot of times they don’t want to get into things that could be used by either side in the election,” an anonymous former aide told POLITICO.“The businesspeople, for the most part, don’t want to get into the middle of political fighting.”

So, basically, what we’re being told is a) members of the much-touted jobs council don’t plan on coming out of hiding until after the election and b) President Obama has made little to no effort to change this.

Remember when the president said “This has not been a show council. This has been a work council”?

Yeah, we do too. Wasn’t that fun?

I don't see a problem with it. I admire people who do honest work to get by. I just don't consider being an insurance agent to be honest work.

<quoted text>I reread this post. You make me laugh. You actually sound like some little kid saying "my husband has always worked his butt off more than your husband and you ever have." Like I said Kiddo I have never attacked your husband! I have no doubt about how hard he works when comes to owning and running a restaurant business. It is hard work. Isn't it about time you start growing up some what. I donot care what you think my husband or kids have done or is doing now. I am not on here to attack your family but for you it is a different story!
You know over the months you would have been better served to actually reread that thing you post. You might take a minute (lol) how the person that your addressing is going to take it. It might have saved you some righteous indignation that you express in your own posts. I personally have no problems with your husband or you or anything you have done before retirement.

My experiences are hardly unique with the health insurance industry concerning MS. I have mentioned this more the once. But you always want to apply your unique observation to the entire body of people that have problems and compare it with your DIL with her MS and you judge accordingly. You've expressed her opinion which may just be YOUR opinion, who knows. And I consider give it that much weight too.

So there's that. Your on topix and you must want to discuss politics. You'll just have to handle it and argue your points and often when you get a sharp rejoinder usually you might consider what you do to get an answer like that.

When you want to carry's Heat's opinions and maybe your own, expect a result that usually Heat receives and now you do.

This is topix, I know it. Dusty and WMCOL are pretty much sometimes on the same page and we've had our moments with each other. Especially Dusty. The thing of it is, I can turn it off. Because when I am off here, who cares. Tamara and Heat can't change anything, their on topix. No different from any other web sites. Man can the words fly on here. So while you may think that I am so hot and you have said so, but in actuality I can type pretty fast, computer in the kitchen cook, watch the TV and have a conversation with some one in the living room. So really we are on Topix. Nothing on here rocks my world. LOL Like nothing I say to Heat or Dusty probably gets them worked up either. They love the argument, we all do, that's why WE'RE ON TOPIX.

To bad you did know him. Funny thing now that he has retired and all busy is being moved to this area and going out and meeting the new breed of agents here it has been an eye opener. Nothing like back in the "OLDEN DAYS" when he started out in the business. But then you probably think I am lying. But the first person we talked to I fired her butt 2 days later.

Whether it was taxable or not or claimed as income never came up. Tamara's sole point was that the refund was not deserved, even though it was paid and accepted according to law.

The refund was done according to law and it was legal to accept the refund but the person is faulted and not the law which allows the refund. Tamara is trying to wiggle away from her original assertions and the blaming of the person by bringing up things that were not a part of her accusations of blame.

And you handle your point by calling my family names Like calling my DIL names? That is very professional in arguing a veiw point. Gottah! Like I said I have not attacked your husband or your kids but on the other hand most on here cannot say the same. But that is a great grownup way to argue a person's point. So if that is what it takes no I donot have it in me.

Exactly what I said if the health insurance was paid for though the business and used as a business tax deduction the it was not personal refund and should have gone back into business accounts. It was made very clear that this health insurance was paid for 100% by TAXPAYERS. Now if it was not stated that this health insurance was paid 100% by TAXPAYERS I could care less who the hell got the refund. It was the staement being for 100% by taxpayers that bothered me! Now do you understand me now. I donot care if you think I am wrong or not. But that got me because I thought us taxpayers where to help the people in proverty!

I hope this clears things up for everyone!

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Taurus

Try hard not to let money or possessions come between you and a friend today, unless it's over something that has got to be sorted out before it goes any further. For instance, if someone owes you money and has consistently failed to pay it back, this is a good day for mentioning it to them and finding out what's going on. If necessary, you may have to be quite vehement.
