COURT:
Bond for child porn suspect?
A former Richton Park firefighter arrested last year on charges of possession of child pornography could be released on bond later this month despite protestations from federal authorities. John M. Kowalski, of Steger, could be released into the custody of his father but wouldn't be allowed to leave the home except for church services or medical needs, and couldn't interact with children or use the Internet, said U.S. District Judge William J. Hibbler on Friday.

Hi everyone, I posted the first but lets get everyone posting and checking posts on a daily schedule. This is the only way we as residents are going to know what is going on in our town.
Thanks to all in advance.....Papaadoc

school bus plows into car at gas pump

Cheryl Pearson, 59, was standing between her car and the gas pump when the school bus hit her vehicle broadside, pushing it into her, Steger Police said. The impact threw Pearson into the gas pump with enough force to knock it from its concrete stand.

No children were injured. Pearson was transported to St. James Hospital and Health Center in Chicago Heights with a broken leg

Bus driver William Davis, 56, of Lynwood, had been trying to turn left from 35th Street south onto Chicago Road when he lost control of the vehicle and made a 180-degree turn.

This is a good idea. It's hard to find Steger news these days. No police blotter anywhere , which really irks me. I called the Village months ago and was told the reporter just stopped coming in to publish our towns police blotter. Maybe the Sun Times/Southtown Star has cut jobs ?

casjuke,
Thanks for the post. I was beginning to think no one was going to post. I think this is the only way we are going to know about things in our town. Now all we have to do is get the word out. Thanks again.

Mayor Sherman needs to get out of his old set ways and help the town progress. Develop the property at Steger and 394. We sure could use a nice retail area. Let's be better then Crete.

This is a good idea, I really miss Steger Matters! And I picked my name because I am a 4th generation Steger resident, believe it or not. I think Steger lots of potential, but nothing will change as long as Lou Sherman is the mayor.

That's "Steger HAS lots of potential" sorry for the typo. And I'm not sure why it says I'm from Homewood -- Papaadoc, have you figured that out yet, by any chance?

I think we all miss Steger Matters, except maybe Mayor Sherman. If we can keep bugging people to come here and not only read, but post things they hear, or just their comments, I think this could be a very good thing for the residents of our town

As to the town listing, I think when you post it says join this group. I haven't but maybe if we fill out the form it asks what town. Don't really know.

I am a former resident of Steger. Yes, I still watch and see what happens in this small village as do most people when they find such an attachment to such a quaint and potentially fine place. The growth of Steger is to be blamed on all those residents who voted and continued to vote for the same person over and over again to have the position of Mayor in their town. Don't they realize that just like a president of the U.S. that after so long of a run in office that corruption sets in?? Or in better words to use "laxity"( Webster's dictionary- lax of quality -state of loose not strict or exact-slack) As this being said, I hope that the people of Steger realizes that the Mayor has worn out his welcome and it is time for a fresh face with young ideas and the passion to make great changes to better all the citizens not just a chosen few. IL. 394 is a good place to begin.

I'll never understand why people continue to support Lou Sherman when evryone talks about how bad he is. His time has come and gone. It's time to give someone else a chance. The "Good Ol' Boys Club" has got to go.

Papaadoc,
Found the photos of Steger very interesting. I must admit that I thought there was a descrepency in one of them which said that there used to be a "walgreens" on the SE corner of 34th and chicago road and then after that the "Situation " lounge. Wasn't it a Rexall drug store ??? Does anyone remember it? Hugo Biasella was the pharmacist there.Let me know.
