1 It's these whiners that give all communities a bad name, and reputation. We'd be better off if they'd leave, and if they have, well congratulations to us. If someone here doesn't like Salem People...why don't you leave, and never come back. We don't want you here anyway. Just leave and don't let the door hit you in the a$$ on your way out. Byeeee! |

1 After moving from a small town that has a population that is comparative to Salem (and another one before that), I can pretty much say that the types of people that make up these towns are quite similar. Every town I've ever had experience with has a representation of every type of person, both good and bad. When I was thinking about moving here two years ago, one of the things that I took into consideration was the crime rate here, and it seems that the incidence of crime is relatively low compared to other places that I've lived. Not to say that there are no criminals here; unfortunately, most every community has to deal with that element. And every town has it's snobs - the self appointed elite. Every town has their troublemakers, their nosey snoops and un-neighborly neighbors. But like other towns, Salem also has a lot of fine and good people, and this community has worked hard to give their families a good life here. This is a good little town that is filled with a lot of good and decent citizens. When I'm returning from a trip and I see the city limit sign at the edge of town, it feels like home. |

Thanks for that..made me smile. I travel a lot, and I see all kinds...people and cities and towns, and I'm so happy to get home to Salem. I believe those that have never been anywhere, have no idea how special little Salem is. We are very fortunate to be able to live here. Anyway..I agree with you. |

In a town that allows citizens to have one derelict car in there yard as well as bathroom toilets, bathtubs, as well as shopping carts too. Can you spell poverty. Some streets one wouldn't want to drive down they are too depressing. Not sure what the per capita income is but it's pretty low. The women that work at the grocery stores are rude. I sat next to one woman from Salem at a leadership course at the "college" and she giggled endlessly then farted. That's the level of class you have in Salem, MO. If you're older and retired it's not so bad there's plenty of that age group to....oh that's right there's nothing to do in Salem. Huh, well what is there to talk about with Salem? Hmmm.

Move to Licking if you think Salem is bad.
|

Licking ? like that's any better. If you're in your mid thirties and jobless for years it's pretty easy to get food stamps.
People from Salem seem to have a certain "pride". They get offended when you put down their town. But then bitch about it themselves. If you can move out of Salem, do it. I don't know anyone that has stayed in Salem the last ten - twenty years everyone up and moves. Like I said if your elderly there at least you're eligible for a job. They are the only ones that have jobs look at DG and Walmart it's only old people - super christian or penecostal. Out of all the towns I've lived in Salem was the poorest. I've never seen a town with so many non-achievers. The car shows they have a few times a summer are really boring and lame and the cars that do show up aren't that great. Rolla is a snooze too. Glad I did move from that hell hole of a town. |

sales@@@hole Were glad your not here either!!!!!! I was born and raised here, and I love it here. Never had food stanps, have nice home with two new cars in driveway.

I completely agree. Obviously we cannot generalize EVERYONE from Salem, but there seems to be a common theme of lack of ambition or desire to better oneself. Lots of women on welfare, unemployed, and uneducated. Pretty sad really because that's normal there. People need to realize that there's a whole big world out there full of people who have enough pride in themselves To be embarrased of being on welfare. But it's almost like you people don't know any better. Actually glad to see older posters on here who are obviously very aware and intelligent. If you love Salem so much, then why don't u get out there and do something to help the welfare children in that town. Teach them that it's not okay to grow up and work the system like their parents, show them that there's more in life. |

Who let this low class element into our message forum? The reason they are complaining about Salem, is they've been run out on a rail, and now have nothing to do but complain.
Thank God for their leaving, and our fresh air. |

Thank you for realizing not everyone in Salem is alike. However, I have had a Salem address all my life and have tried to help younger children understand to strive. The problem is, when children see that something works for their parents then they tend to follow in their foot steps. Some cannot make it through high school, much less to college, because they do not get the help at home with their school work. Or they have so much to do at home when they get out of school they do not have time for their homework. There are several services to just help children get school supplies and gloves and hats for winter. Salem even has the A+ Program which has High School students to volunteer their time to the lower grades hoping some of the children will try to go further in life. Unfortunately, if the parents are not willing to help push their children for further achievement then there is very little anyone else can do. |

In Salem, MO - you have a place called The Auto Connection, advertised nonstop every week in the newspaper and on KKID radio, owned and operated by Jamie Schwartz, a man on federal parole and a thief. Not much business occurs there, but has endless amounts of money for a hundred dollar ad in the paper every week and radio advertisements. Why would someone on federal parole and a known thief want to advertise JAMIE SCHWARTZ on business ads? Doesn't anybody get sick of opening up the Salem News to read about town and there's a huge ad in there with JAMIE SCHWARTZ, he must think he's a rock star or wants fame. How needy and desperate for attention can't a person be?

Salem is a black hole. I have no regrets in my life except for moving to Salem. Why do I regret coming to this wasteland of a city? There are no quality jobs to be had (unless you have the right last name). The church "mafia" that runs this town does a fine job of stopping any open minded thinking dead in its tracks. The law in Salem is corrupt from the cops all the way to the judge (again, you have the last right name, you can get away with murder). I have never seen in my life so many people, that anywhere else would have a legitimate job, instead living off welfare and making meth and being proud of it. This is why I left. Sure people can paint a rosy picture and say that salem is soooooo nice and a great place to raise kids, but I don't want my kids to wind up with a drug problem or wind up on welfare. Moving out of Salem was the best thing I could have ever done. So long and good riddance! You can have it for what it's worth.

I agree 100%. If you can possibly move from Salem and can scrounge up enough money to move provided your job allows you to scrounge up enough money, do it. Salem jobs don't want employees to earn enough money to live on let alone do better for themselves and move. Where are the teachers that teach at Salem School? The people that work in Salem the professionals that are educated don't live in Salem, you never see them anywhere. The only example of human life is welfare mommas or cracks mommas. Salem is the ultimate Wasteland!

I was not run out of town on a rail. I tried to make a legitimate start in Salem, but being that I am not one of the good 'ol boys with one of the golden last names, or one of the church mafia members who thinks they are holier than thou, I wasn't exactly made to feel at home, nor was I able to find a legitimate job. I wound up having to take a job with an out of state company and not coming hone but once a month. After I got laid off from that job thanks to the economy, I had no choice but to pick up and move to where REAL opportunity exists, because if I were to stay in Salem, I would have had to make dope to make ends meet, and unlike 90% of Salem, I don't have a meth problem. So for you to make this comment shows the true ignorance of the people of the City of Salem. |
|||
We moved to Salem in 1958, over the years the only Haters I saw where lazy ass, freeloaders, or hanger-ons from the dope rehab center. It's kind of funny the people that down the Churches are the same people who wants a free hand out. Maybe in YOUR group 90% is meth users, so where ever you go it's going to be the same. But maybe as the old saying goes ignorance is blessed, you are one lucky person. |
