the location given in the description is twelve miles north of Craig Colorado that be near a geological point of Fortifacation rock or in general between there and the Nask Fork shear zone whitch runns clear to Lusk Wyoming thats a long shear zone and it's buried not so deep. It was the shear zone related to centers of volcanic activity roughly 100,000 years ago when Wyoming was the edge of a continential shelf and as you progree into Colorao from Wyoming you drop over state line hill just three miles out of Baggs Wyoming this is where you cross fourmilew creek whitch follows the shear zone roughly east and west while the other dominent creeks in the reason flow in north south direction along points of least resistance faults in other words. this basin as it is was once full of water called lake goshoot and between the Nash fork shear zone and the summit of Great Divide lay the springs of the great divide these mineral springs or Iron springs where fumerol springs reliving pressure from near by volcanoes some eighteen such mountains in the rocky mountain range between Steamboat springs and encampment Wyoming these dormanent volcanic centers can be seen in their present state as Black mountain Elk mountain Bakers peak and on down the line towards steamboat lake. the earthquakes are just releases of stresses on plates called tetonic plates these stresses cause the earth to shake as tension is relived. the forces that cause releases of tension can be any number of conditions but further activity could indicate causes even man made causes.

Interesting. I would be interested where you get your information from...just curious, that's all. You seem to know quite a bit about my backyard, I am ever curious about it myself.
We have a substantial amount of drilling out this direction with some sort of "deep rock fracturing" going on, I'm not a roughneck so I have no clue what that sort of drilling that is. Quite a bit of the folk out here believe the gas exploration companies have something to do with it as well as it being an active fault zone. I was out of the area when this happened and I have heard reports of folks feeling nothing to being shoved out of a chair. My neighbor said he went out to see what was up and when he looked up and down the street, everyone was out looking, just like him...just like in a movie or something. It happens and we definitely feel it. There is also an outcropping in Moffat County called Cedar Mountain...looks like a volcano but I am told it was a vent for Black Mountain, 20 miles to the north. What say on that? You've got my interest up... |

Sorry, something imaginary cannot be after anyone. Go preach somewhere else, this is an informative thread. |
