N.Y. Congressman Arrested On DWI Charges

Staten Island and Brooklyn Rep. Vito J. Fossella was arrested in Virginia overnight on drunk driving charges, police confirmed to CBS 2.

The arrest took place in Alexandria.

Early Thursday evening, Fossella issued a statement regarding the arrest, acknowledging and apologizing for his actions:

"Last night I made an error in judgment. As a parent, I know that taking even one drink of alcohol before getting behind the wheel of a car is wrong. I apologize to my family and the constituents of the 13th Congressional District for embarrassing them, as well as myself." Read more

As someone that used to live on Staten Island and proud of it, I am sorry to read anything that casts my home town in a bad light; but at the same time I see a man that made a mistake and had the courage to stand up and say "Yes I messed up" and not try to lie and cheat to get out of it as others in politics have done.
Anybody can make a mistake one time but twice and there's a problem.
As the saying goes (PARAPHRASING) "LET HE WHO IS WITHOUT A SCREW UP IN THEIR PAST CAST THE FIRST STONE"

"mistake" or criminal act? And what about the price we are all paying because of his criminal support of everything Bush has done?

What does Bush have to do with this? Fossella made a mistake and I'm sure he'll pay the consequences. Rabid liberals always look to drag Bush into things.

Typical liberal responce everything is Bush's fault if it was a liberal that got caught they would probably say Bush forced the booze down his throat. Yes we all know that Bush caused the Titanic to sink, used his weather machine to cause katrina, and lets not forget Mt. St Hellen's eruption; yep all Bush's fault. Keep up the good work liberals and you will save the world. Why? because the Republicans will keep the White House

To Crystal in SI and Mark, in ,ah, Florida (NOYB, pal) Yeah, I feel for Fossells with this DWI, the man made a mistake and is willing to admit it. I give him props for that and hope he gets help if alcohol is a prob for him. BUT, yeah, we "Liberals" have more than a fair right to say that Fosells = Bush. He has voted time and again for Bush policy continuals. And as a "Liberal" I am ashamed to have him rep my district. I also have a very Liberal daughter fighting in Iraq. Where are your kids, you Right Wing (but oh so wrong) Conservatives????

April: First I need to say a heart felt THANK YOU! to you and your daughter.
It also might surprise a lot of liberals to know that while I supported the war to get rid of Saddam Hussein I DO NOT support us still being there. Saddam is gone we should be also. There are a lot of us "Right Wingers that feel that way. I do have a child (he's disabled, but don't cry for him or me it isn't your fault and I'm cool with it) he is unable to serve. I know I don't live there in S.I. but I still care about my home town and when the people that deside for us stumbles it is all of our business not the right or the left and where ever you live.
Do I think Bush was the best well I thought and still do think he was the better choice. I always hoped for McCain what I hope will be a middle of the road slightly to the right Republican like me.
If you straddle the fence you better keep both eyes open.
Again Thank You to you and your daughter and lets all hope for her and all our BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN'S safe and speedy return home.

I guess New York PBA cards don't get you out of trouble when you're pulled-over out of state, huh?
