"Gov. Rick Scott praised Pasco County officials and first responders Friday after touring the areas hardest hit by Tropical Storm Debby and said he would seek federal disaster relief for the recovery."

"All of Colorado's nine members of the Congressional delegation asked President Barack Obama Thursday to declare the state a federal disaster area due to the disastrous and deadly wildfires." (Half of CO's congressmen are Republicans)

"GENESEE COUNTY, MI -- Gov. Rick Snyder once again is calling on the federal government to get help for victims of last month's flooding in Genesee County."

----------

Rightwinger politicians are hellbent on cutting "wasteful" government spending, including federal aid for disasters, are singing a different tune when a disaster actually strikes, aren't they?

This is the consistent pattern on the right - demonize the federal government and all federal spending, but as soon as there's a problem in their state, they're screaming for the federal government to step in and fix things.

Republican claims that the federal government is evil and the source of every problem is pure bullshit, as they prove every time something bad happens in their state.

Republican efforts to cut federal spending on the backs of FEMA and firefighters and policemen are short-sighted and stupid.

But that's the core of conservative ideology these days - stupidity and short sightedness.

CNN Poll: Romney Leads in Battleground States
Tuesday, 03 Jul 2012 10:20 AM
By Patrick Hobin
President Barack Obama maintains a slight and statistically insignificant edge over Mitt Romney nationally, according to a new CNN/ORC International poll, but Romney leads Obama in critical battleground states.
Obama leads Romney nationally by three percentage points, 49 to 46, with 4 percent of those saying they would vote for another candidate or neither candidate, which is inside the poll's margin of error. In the 15 states CNN calls battleground states — Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin — Romney leads Obama, 51 percent to 43 percent.
"Note carefully that this does not mean that Romney will win each of those states by eight points, or that he will win all 15 of those states," said Keating Holland, CNN’s polling director. "That's both good news and bad news for Romney. The good news: he has residual strength in states that the two campaigns are fighting over. The bad news: Romney is also spending resources defending states that should be part of the GOP coalition, rather than taking the battle to Obama's home turf."
Romney leads among men by 5 points and among voters 50 and older, Romney leads, 53 percent to 43 percent. Obama leads by 11 among women and gets strong support from young voters. Obama also wins 39 percent of the white vote and four-in-five nonwhites say they would vote for Obama over Romney.
The CNN/ORC International poll was conducted June 28-July 1.

Barack Obama Is Crushing Mitt Romney In Swing States
Brett LoGiurato

President Barack Obama is leading Mitt Romney by 8 points in 12 battleground states in a new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, expanding his lead 6 points from April.
...
Some key indicators in the poll put Obama in good shape. For one, he has more definite support from his voters compared with Romney — 78 percent to 68 percent.

For another, there is the question of whether a candidate — in this case, Romney — can win mostly off negative energy. The perception continues that voters are choosing Romney because of bad feelings toward Obama, rather than for Romney.

Obama Besting Romney In Swing States: Quinnipiac Poll
By Luke Johnson

President Barack Obama has the advantage in the battleground states of Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania, and voters in those states overwhelmingly back his latest immigration directive, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

Obama has the biggest lead in Ohio, where he leads presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney by a 47-38 margin. Obama leads Romney by a 45-39 margin in Pennsylvania and has a 45-41 edge in Florida. The results are better for Obama than the firm's June 21 poll showing Florida and Ohio too close to call and Pennsylvania with an identical six-point margin.

The results follow an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll released Tuesday showing the president's lead expanding in battleground states.

Imagine that - Romney doesn't want to debate healthcare.

LOL! I wonder why.

----------

Romney Campaign Declaring Cease Fire on Health Care

In the aftermath of the Supreme Court health care ruling, the early conventional wisdom was that an unfavorable health care ruling at the court would be good for Republicans politically, even as it was a serious policy setback for conservatives. But that’s not shaping up to be the case. Mitt Romney, after giving a brief statement decrying the decision, has been virtually silent on criticizing the health care law. He’s been on vacation and his campaign has been giving off clear signals that it doesn’t want to make health care a major part of the election.

----------

Maybe because he's the least qualified Republican in the country to have that debate.

Ya think? LMAO!

Danny BOY ran out of thoughts and ideas along time ago so he became a plagiarizer.

Danny Boy mentioned a few weeks ago that his posts were being removed by Topix and didn't know for sure the reason. The reason is, Danny Boys posts consist wholly or partly of another's work, without permission or credit given. I think someone on here may be forwarding the stolen work to the source. LMAO at poor Danny Boy.

Danny Boy has an opinion on every topic posted. Sadly though his opinions are not his but another's.

Stealing is stealing and Danny Boy has no problem with stealing. Danny Boy is so desperate to appear as an intelligent person he became the plagiarizer that he is. This wasn’t enough for Danny Boy so he began posting under different ID’s. This way he would appear to have supporters. Danny Boy fooled many of us on here for awhile, but when one uses many ID’s with different personalities mistakes are made and the truth comes out. Muffin Boy and Booby64 as I refer to them, are the two ID’s he uses regularly on this forum and other forums on Topix.

For those who do not know the Definition of PLAGIARIZE

transitive verb

: to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own : use (another's production) without crediting the source

intransitive verb

: to commit literary theft : present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source

Hey Muffin Boy, your immaturity is showing when you post as me.

Your inability to debate is showing again.

You're how old Dude? LOL

You cannot debate about Obama's economy so you resort to posting as me.

Come on muffins, I have asked you at least a dozen times to explain to us how you can bash Bush and his (Supported by a democrat controlled congress) wars yet you mention nothing about why Obama has not stopped these terrible wars Bush started.

Its been 3 1/2 years and Obama has surpassed the amount Bush spent on wars. How much tax payer money that we don't have did Obama spend, Muffin's? What’s the total as of today did Obama give to the United Nations for war?

"If you want to talk firsts for Bush, this was the first time in American history that a president took us into a war and cut taxes."

Bush was first president to lead country into war and cut taxes

As the talk about the price tag for the war in Afghanistan heats up, we thought it would be worthwhile to take a look at Krugman's claim about Bush being the first to cut taxes after leading the country into war, and to add some context.

Generally, we found, taxes and wars have followed a fairly predictable pattern: Taxes rise during wartime and then come back down in the years afterward.

We'll start with the Civil War. Congress enacted various income and excise taxes to meet the rising cost of the war, most of which were repealed in the years after the war.

During World War I, the 1916 Revenue Act and the War Revenue Act of 1917 increased tax revenue from $761 million in 1916 to $3.6 billion in 1918. After the war, in the 1920s, Congress cut taxes five times.

The same was true during World War II. Tax increases over several years raised revenues from $8.7 billion in 1941 to $45.2 billion in 1945. Again, tax cuts followed the war.

It's worth noting, however, that during all of those wars, the war expenses were much larger than today, relative to the size of the economy.

Congress hasn't formally declared war since then, but we think it's fair to consider the wars in Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf and Iraq. However, we have decided not to include the armed conflicts in Grenada in 1983 and Panama in 1989 due to their much smaller cost, length and scope
