I would also like to bring up the fact that if you move to Idaho, you are going to smell dairy and you can either suck it up, stop complaining and tribute to society, or go away and in my opinion, never come back.

1 I here what your saying. But look at it from a Californians standpoint. They've been replaced by illegal immigrants, and the middle class has no other choice but to move. Idaho will still have that small town feel to it. And Californians moving to that area really do appreciate the good people of Idaho. |

1 Idahoians should pass laws prohibiting idahoians from selling large lands to california or any other developers to protect the beauty of idaho. californians most bought houses for under 80k and have found they can now sell for 500k or more, so they sell and buy beautiful properties in idaho away from killers, child molesters, stabbings, shootings on a daily basis infringing upon their neighborhoods, would you not move? and how by chance did they hear of this great land, low crime beautiful State called Idaho-well through greedy Idahoian real estate agents eager to sell out their communities for the almighty dollor-lets put the blame where it falls. I moved here with my children, in school are ignored and treated badly because they said they moved from california, outcast even though we were only in california for a couple years, a short stay. this bigotry must come from the parents, shame on you, you can hate californians but don't teach your children to hate mine because they are from california and yes I will go there, my daughter said they don't like her because she in not LDS. this is america you know freedom of religion and freedom to live where we want to. You can hate me for living in califorina for two years, but not my children they are innocent, so I will move. please let your realtors know to be up front and honest about idahoians love for there fellow man, even more so for inncocent children. |

1 On the topic though, I don't like Idaho losing farm land either, it irritates me like non-other. However just just blaming it on California isn't the answer. The problem isn't who is coming in, but why so many farmers are forced to sell their lands and leave. The fact is the majority of people buy everything exclusively from Walmart, Albertsons, Target and other store giants for everything, but where do these stores get all of their crap they sell to you? They ship it in from where ever sells the cheapest, and that usually is from the oppososite side of the country or world. If we want to perserve Idaho farms, then we need to focus on becoming more community oriented and agriculturally self-sustainable.

Hesiod your right all mormons are not like that and are kind and friendly as my sister a member for 30 years, nicest person you will ever meet, that's why I wanted my children raised these good people, I was shocked to find this nearly entire town is like that. we will move even if it gets better in the upcoming years the damage will be done to my children if I don't. I believe every one has the right to their own beliefs and I respect them for that. As for Idahoians forced to sell their farms that is quite insightfull and probably true, but we must remember Walmart gets all or most products from Mexico, India and other foreign countries and pay employee's horrible wages to keep their income high, they have moved into small farm communities and shut dowm many a business, mom and pop type, I have no love for Walmart and agree with you. But we must not forget farms are federally subsidised and even difficult could maintain their farms if it weren't large developers offering them enourmous amounts of money through Idaho real estate agents, enough money to keep their homes with some acreage and live better than what they were. it's not just Idaho, Montana and Wyoming real estate agents are advertising and telling farmers and residents they can make 5, 10x the price for their homes and land tempting isn't it. Walmart is the cause of many problems, you are right but lets not let the greedy people off the hook. thanks for your comments, my children will be glad to hear their are good people like you out there and not just me saying so. |

"and to our surprise we were shocked to find out that our crime rate per capita in our suburb of 90,000 is half of what we had in CDA!"
Houston's crime has skyrocketed in the past 6 months. Rapes, murders, dope all have increased with the influx of Katrina victims. |

I saw a few beautiful, large cattle pastures and farmland parcels around Boise and Meridian, but mostly, I saw parcels that were less than 20 acres with rusted out trucks, broken eqpt and beaten down old shacks or single wide trailers from 1963. I also saw smaller "farms" that were actually fenced off from the middle of brand new housing developments, these were the typical tobacco chewing geezers that are holding out for their $1 million per acre by holding the new home owners hostage with their "colorful" eyesore properties on the corner of new developments.
Those rusted out trucks and broken down farm tools didn't get that way in the last 10 years or 10 months, those eyesore properties have been that way for 20 to 30 years. Beef is run by co-ops and so are produce, alfalfa and other commodities that have a profit greater than the sell price of the land. Problem is, none of those commodities have much future as the land becomes too valuable to "waste" on mom & pop sized operations. This is not unique to Idaho, it's just that Idaho has resources and attractions that also make it live-able. Go look at Iowa, now there is a place that is all co-op farmland fo as far as the eye can see and there is no danger of a housing boom there! |

I agree. We shouldn't be blaming the rise in home prices on those that are fortunate enough to move to our beautiful valley. And why shouldn't they put their hard earned money back into a piece of land or home? They pay property taxes, support our schools, buy groceries here, just to name a few. Most of the people I know that are from other states are not hostile or greedy but hard working folks, just trying to bring their families up in a peaceful environment. Isn't that to our advantage anyway? They are raising their children to be responsible, hard working adults. And just ask yourself what you would rather see...an old mobile home with old vehicles parked all over, or a beautiful home, constructed by some of our own local builders.

The Growth in Idaho is Idaho's fault. People keep voting for leadership that sells us the "economic growth" package. What did you think that meant? Tax incentives bringing jobs means bringing people. The developement contract permits are not being signed by Californians, but by the Idahoans we have elected. Put your anger where it belongs, with our elected officals and the voters. Yes that means you.

How much is Idaho land worth? We have 600 acres that boarder a state, university and a town in North Idaho. The most wealth a person has is whats on the inside and not the outside but when it comes to a fixed income and taxes you end up having to sell. Our property rights are being sucked up by regulations and this ticks us farmers and ranchers off! Generations of farmers and ranchers are being over run by greed! Its a sad day in Idaho!

Being born and raised in CA and looking to move with in a year to Sandpoint due to my husband getting a job up there. I plan on buying farm land and keeping it as farm land. I ride horses and love the ranching life. I hate California and look forward to leaving.
I live in a small town a lot like sandpoint is now. When I moved to this town 16 years ago you could buy a home for dirt cheap now you can not buy anything under 600k for a piece of crap. The newbies who have moved up here have no respect for the locals and piss and moan over everything. I promise when we do make the move to ID, I will respect the locals and the land and will never influance the CA way.. |
