Is that a threat or a promise?

No offense, but we need active families with kids that are willing to stand up to the "status quo" around here and make Foley the "forward city" that it advertises itself as. Once you get off the main drag in Foley, the ole gray mare just ain't what she used to be. Look at Oxford, MS., it is listed as one of the TOP retirement small towns in America, and also has a University there. When I was in school there, the student population was about 9K, and today it's about 13K, which is not a lot for 20+ years. It is very hospitable, food is great, and there are lots of arts there. Sorry about the Foley thing; I moved here from TN. to get my kids into a smaller town, now can't sell house to get out. Fighting tooth and toenail with what's going on around here - never been one to roll over and play dead. Good luck on your move. |

Yea, but they pay a lot for their campground trailer sites and their condos. Who says ordering a glass of water with lemon and then stiring a packet of 'Sweet N Low' in it to make lemonaide is being cheap? If they follow it up with a cup of hot water that they pour ketchup into in order to make tomato soup and then leave without leaving a tip, then that is being cheap and a good indication that they are from Michigan. Don't believe me? Just ask any waitor/waitress in town.

I have just moved here in June of this year to Foley from North Alabama. The crime rate here is lower and I like it here. There are unfortunate events that happen everywhere. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind- you don't have to agree with everyone but you CAN agree to disagree and say hello how are you and smile. I have found most of the people here are friendly but it never hurts to try to be nice no matter what.

thanks for your lifeless liberal soft soap commentary there salt life. your screen name says enough, you are some sort of hippy wanna be aren't you

There are more than enough crabby people to go around down here. Southern Hospitality is a thing of the past, or at least it's not practiced in abundance. If you moved down here to retire, I hate to say it, but we need tax paying families here in order for anything substantial to change around here. Otherwise, it's all about retired people, no kids, no school, and only jobs that wait on or take care of retired people. The rest of us, included those originally from here are just plain SOL. "The Forward City" motto reflects a retroactive period in time, not the needs of today's modern society.

We may not have to worry about the retired population for very much longer. If our wonderful leader "The Kenyan" has his way they will be exterminated.
If not "The Forward City" then what do you suggest? I think the north end of the county could use meth capital of south alabama. |

Sorry your experience with people from Michigan has sucked. They aren't all like that, just like all of us from Alabama aren't all dumb, slow talking southerners. I was born and raised in Montgomery. I've lived in Michigan 34 years and there are some wonderful, generous people in West Michigan. We come down to Orange Beach regularly, eat out for lunch and supper every day, and I have been tipping 20% for about 4 years now to stay above the normal rate. We shop in Foley, Pensacola, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Give people a break and don't generalize about a certain group. |

Dixie Bell you are the way you are because you were raised here in the south. Your tipping and generosity is from your raising. Even your gentile description of your experiences up north come from the same place. I wouldn't generalize if there were only a couple of instances, but I have had many, many bad experiences with humans from Michigan.

Met a gentleman from Michigan Saturday night at a rodeo in Bay Minette, very friendly man totally complimentary of our area. We spent several minutes talking about Alabama and Michigan, they have their problems, we have ours. Instead of complaining why not do something about it? There are all kind of places where a person can contribute their time to improve their own City. I am from Baldwin County and if you serve me with an attitude I assure you there will be not 20% tip.
