Got a letter from D. Scott Carruthers

I received a letter today from an attorney in California, D. Scott Carruthers and Associates. The debt was from several years ago and I now have the money to pay it in full, but they offered to settle it. Saved me over $500! He can collect from me any time with deals like that.

If you are going to post a bunch of bogus reviews, at least post them from different areas. Every positive review about D Scott Caruthers is from Phoenix, AZ.

I got a letter from D. Scott Caruthers yesterday, the 10th of August, telling me I needed to respond 14 days from the date of the letter or they would take legal action. The letter was dated the 1st! It had a Nevada postmark of the 6th. I live in the Midwest. Do they send these by horseback? If this company is not licensed in my state, does that mean they cannot pursue legal action in a court in my state? I will work with them, but not if they insist on goon-style tactics.

DO NOT WORK WITH THEM. THEY ARE NOT LEGIT. Request documentation through certified mail. You wont receive anything back, and you will be able to subpoena them if they keep harassing you.

That is exactly the impression i got from them. THUGS!!! they sounded like somebody u would run into in the streets. GHETTO!!! they were very rude and when they answered the guy said 'hello??...oh, i mean, uhhhhh, regency what can i do for u??" what is that?? so im just wondering what u did to settle this debt? please let me know because i am at a loss here. i do want to settle it but i refuse to give my money to somebody who i strongly believe is just trying to scam me!! thanks in advance

i just got a letter from these guys and they were completely improfessional. i know that i owe this money and i know i need to pay it before they take further action, but i just cant believe that these people are legit. especially after reading all of these negative reviews!!! my question for everyone on here is what did u do about the debt?? did u just let it go? or have u resolved it yet?? i WILL NOT hand over ANY AMOUNT of money to these jerks. they arent fooling me. is there any other way to go about it? please let me know. thank u

I too received a letter from this clown, but being in the LEGAL FIELD MYSELF (mistake one for him) I smelled a SCAVENGER DEBT a mile away.

Here's the deal people. Every state has a statute of limitation that bars collecting on certain alleged "debts" after "x" amount of years. Google your state and find out where you stand.

It looks like this guy's M.O. is to dredge up old bank account "debts", on accounts that were CLOSED when people moved out of state. They think by scaring someone into thinking the account really WASN'T closed out and now there's this "debt" floating around with added interest, they'll get easy money.

WRONG. The ONLY way to respond to a collector is to send them a CEASE AND DESIST LETTER via CERTIFIED MAIL. You can Google these quite easily. Make it clear that you dispute the debt and that they are not to contact you by phone or mail again, except for the ONE remaining written contact option they have, advising whether or not they intend to pursue the matter legally.

Belive me, an attorney in California is NOT going to spend money to try to get a judgment on a bogus debt in, let's say Maryland. It will end up costing him almost as much or even more money sometimes to proceed legally.

Shame on these people. The economy is bad enough with Obama in office. Creeps like this need to be shut down for good!!
