Good night people. Teach your kids to ride safely and ALWAYS wear a helmet. Helmets don't always save lives, but it's better than nothing and they do help.

Amber - do you have any idea how the boy is? My friend and I were on the scene - I was talking to them both letting them know help was coming although I knew your cousin had passed and was saying a Prayer for them both. If you have any info I would appreciate it as we are both very much in a fog... It was a life changing event for all those there... I wish your family the best - and may God be with you... email: missspunky99@yahoo.com

I am sorry for your loss as well Amber. I was there with my friend and we waited with them till help got there along with another couple. I hope and pray the boy is okay. I have not stopped thinking about him or her since it all happened. I remember trying to comfort him as much as I possibly could, hoping and praying that by some miracle of God they would both be okay. If there is a chance I would like to know if he is okay and you can get a hold of me through my email as well at xjazz25x@gmail.com. I am sure the loss of Elizabeth is overwhelming and my heart goes out to you and your family.

My goodness, I don't think I've ever seen a thread this intensely emotional.

God bless Elizabeth and everyone else that has obviously been affected by this tragedy.

That sad part is that you can only encourage them to and tell them to and make them wear it until they are out of your sight. It is up to them to decide how much their life is worth, after that.

Much like the people I see with their helmets strapped to their bikes, instead of their heads. They got a nice bike, nice boots, nice leathers and a nice helmet strapped to the bike. Id10t's.

These kids were 16 and 19 years old. As a parent of a teenager, I understand that no matter what you tell your children they 'must' do or caution them about what they 'shouldn't do' when they are out and about in the world and not under direct adult supervision, they do what they darn well please.

I'm very sorry this young lady is gone and the young man is critically hurt. My then-1o year-old nephew broke his neck on one of those things. Fortunately, he seems to have no ill effects.

But in response to Melissa's question about "Why didn't the parents make them wear helmets???" - as a mother of boys (21, 20, 13), I can tell them each and every day to wear their helmets - which they do when I'm around. But, they don't necessarily when they're away from me. I sincerely hope Melissa isn't blaming these grieving parents. When children become young adults, sometimes their upbringing and common sense is overruled by their desire to have fun.

Our prayers are with the Pohl family and the young man.

A great way to teach about helmets....

Put a helmet on the child then hit the helmet with a hammer. They will feel the hit, but it will not hurt. Now, tell them to take off the helmet and tell them that you are going to now hit them on the head WITHOUT the helmet.

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Scorpio

There are problems concerning money today, especially if someone thinks they aren't getting their fair share of it. Mars turns retrograde in your house of public matters, so issues from the pat will need to be dealt with in weeks to come. Sort things out quickly, before they become even more fraught.
