My boss, a die-hard republican, held a meeting today and said that no cars were allowed to park on the property with an Obama or Democratic bumper sticker. He said that we are of course free to vote for whomever we want, but he cannot allow Democrat stickers on company property. He said that if we didn't want to remove our stickers that we could park the car down the street, but not in the company parking lot.
My question is "Is this legal?" I've read everything on the department of labor website and the kentucky labor board and I can't find anything that says it's illegal.
I guess I have to take it off before morning.

Does anyone else have bumper stickers on their vehichles? They better not have if he singled out a non threatening policical sticker. What did he say would be the outcome if one continued to park in the lot even though they had an Obama sticker? Did he say he would terminate you or have your car towed? Cut your pay or hours? What is the name of this person?
This is discrimination, intimidation and suppression of you right to political choice. First you should call a Constitutional Attorney and follow his advice. If he says speak your mind until your trial date or settlement, then I would call the Governors office, then I would ring up the White House and tell them your story, ask them for advice in who to contact and I would speak to the Advocate Messenger and Channel 18. It all depends on YOU and how much you believe in your Constitutional Rights and how well you like, need your job until you get your money from suing his discrimating ass. Good luck and FYI, I am a Republican.

and even though he said you could vote for whomever you want, he has planted a seed that made you feel your job could in jeopardy and treated you differently than other employees because you show support for and plan to vote for Obama.

I checked. Under the law of Kentucky, the boss is within his rights. I have no "right" to display a political bumper sticker on company property and the company can pick and choose what stickers they allow on the property.

"He said that we are of course free to vote for whomever we want, but he cannot allow Democrat stickers on company property."

Your boss was correct, you do have the right to vote for whomever you want; it's in the U.S. Constitution. It appears your boss overlooked other fundamental rights under the Constitution that includes FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

In the work place there are limitations on free speech and courts have ruled in favor of the employer when an employee's speech violated company policy. Generally it's standard policy that employers discourage political activities in the work place because it's bad for business. For instance if a large customer was a die-hard Democrat, it would be bad for business if the work place was full of Republican posters. No salesmen in their right mind would argue politics risking a multi-million dollar sale.

While there are no Federal laws protecting an employee from retaliation for voting or engaging in political activity, there other laws that protect the employees from unfair labor practices. If your job was in Ohio, they have a law protecting employees from their boss doing anything to threaten or intimidate them about how they vote, but Kentucky does not.

Is your boss discriminating against Democrat employees? YES
Is it illegal in Kentucky? NO

Your boss probably said the same thing in 2008 or in other election cycles and while it's possible he is in violation of one or more labor laws, you'll have to decide if it's worth perusing.

Personally I would remove the bumper sticker and place it on his car when nobody was looking.

Thank you very much. You have been part of a social experiment. While my stories are based on an actual incident, they are made up. The purpose was to see if two groups of people in this case Harrodsburg and Stanford would offer differing opinions on the same incident, but with different candidates.
Presuming that Mr. Obama is unpopular in both of these areas (capturing less than 35% of the vote) I thought it would be interesting to see if the conservative boss would gain support from the populace. Likewise, I expected the liberal boss to earn condemnation.
However it would seem that BOTH bosses in this instance received mostly condemnation. This shows that people do tend to value the freedom of speech, even when the speech is in favor of something or someone that they oppose.
Thank you all for your cooperation.

This is how a republican thinks

During a republican president : "They couldn't really do anything in four years, you can't blame them"

During a Democratic president: "they ruined this country within the first 90 days!"

I don't think all republicans are idiots, but the ones around here sure are.

You for sure are't American. This kind of thinking comes from those born outside the U.S. such as Obama and those that support him. Hell!!! lets all go on welfare. See where that gets us, and who pays for that CF.

I hope mitt does win, just to hear what the republicans say after he accomplishes nothing in four years. Let's face it, its going to take alot longer then 4 years to fix things and I honestly believe america will never be like it was before the recent wars. Iraq and Afghanistan are the reason our economy is struggling so much, and both are because of Bush.

Simply put I think of republicans as people who think america was perfect and has lost its way. Where as Democrats tend to think america could be great. Republicans think any form of change is inherently evil, crazy people that amuse any change is aimed at hampering they're freedoms. Don't get me wrong both are only concerned with helping themselves.

You wont see MITT Roomney with this record:::
If anyone still supports Obama, you are truly uninformed. See the 'Obam's Americia 2016' This has been well researched and explains so much of what is going on in our country today. Did you know none of his classmates at Harvard remember him. He went by another name when he was there (Barry S.). He went to Harvard free because he was a foreign exchange student from Indonesia. Therfore ineligiable to run for Pres. Thats why he has spent millions to have his records at harvard sealed. And he attachs Roomney on his past 10 years of tax records. Yes he was born in U.S. but he lied to get a free education. He moved fast and was president before we even had time to check him out. He believes as his Father and Mother. They both hated America and believed it should be downsized. And it's working!!!! His parents instilled this hatred of Americian values in him.For him to admitt he was a foreign student would disqualify him as Pres, while he was born in Hawaii he lied to get a free Harvard education under a fake name. He wasn't rememberd by MOST classmates because he rarly attend class, hung out with very marxist groups (antiamerician) smoking a lot of pot, and made bad grade - all on taxpayers. He pays millions to keep this hidden from thr people so he can have more time to fulfill his Fathers dream of Americian distruction. He believes in high taxes. And actually the goveronment can tax us up to 100% of our income - as long as They provide us a standard of living and that is determined by THEM!!!! This is what he wants. He wants us like China. This is all very very very true.
