State Senator Joe Simitian and all the other's that voted for this law have no clue how misinformed they are about this matter. The distraction is not holding a cell phone in your hand. It's the conversation that is the distraction. If it was the holding of a cell phone that distracts drivers, how about the lip-stick, the coke can, the map, the newspaper, the book, the eye-brow brush. It's not the holding of a cell phone it's the conversation the parties are having. And remenber the conversation is still going to go on, but with a new twist. This is just another crazy law the brain dead folks in Sacramento passed that they think makes them look smarter than the rest of us...well think again.

By the way...I forgot to mention...how about the commercial drivers using two-way radio communication to their dispatchers and the 100,000 plus cab drivers in California...well Senator Simitian, what's your solution to that situation. I know, the taxpayers can come up with another billion or so and make a parking lane on all the freeways in California, great idea right...you people are disgusting.

When will these people learn that it is the conversations themselves that cause the distraction not whether or not ur hancd is on the wheel?

Ah now... Here is a bit of legislative 'brilliance'. Joe Simpleton (actually the spelling is very similiar - I'm having fun with the idiot who wrote the original bill).

Lets not have police go after those sub-moronic fools who quickly weave in and out of traffic at 100mph (some even 'chasing' their empty headed friend making TWO idiots weaving through traffic at 100 mph). Oh no, let's go after the serious law-breakers, the ones' on their cell phones.

Now I'll admit it could be argued that cell phones are a distraction to driving, but let's get real; what about people who eat in their car, I've seen women put makeup on while driving, people lifting their head (taking their eye off traffic) to take a drink of that soda.... There are plenty of distractions in the vehicle. Another thought; we should remember children in the car are one of the worst distractions - let's ban children in cars and make 'em walk/run along side of us to keep up so they won't distract us. Then let's fine the parents for driving their children in the car,,, um say,,,$10,000.... Am I serious? Naw,,, but it makes about as much sense as banning cell phone use in the car (which I rarely do anyway). Actually, it doesn't ban the use of the phone,,, only that it must be hands-free; how much sense does THAT make,,,, isn't getting involved in a conversation the biggest part of the problem/distraction?

Joe 'Simpleton' should be made the poster-child of idiot legislation!
