Lionshare is not accredited by American Zoo and Aquarium Association (formerly known as the American Association of Zoological Parks and Aquariums) founded in 1924. "While accredited as a zoo by the Punta Gorda, Fla.-based Zoological Association of America", that organization, formed in 2005, doesn't amount to much. You won't find the Bronx Zoo on this list! http://zaa.org/index.php... "Lionshare appears to be nothing more than a private menagerie owned by a wealthy woman who has decided to collect exotic species rather than art or jewelry. There is no evidence that Lionshare is open to the public—which would certainly make it difficult for the cheetahs to serve any educational purpose—and is not part of a recognized captive breeding program for cheetahs."

Isn't anyone concerned about the well-being of the animals? Back country Greenwich is not exactly the natural habitat for cheetahs.

Bottom line - wild animals are NOT suitable as pets and can ever be domesticated. I feel very sorry for these animals who are not in their natural habitat nor in a good zoo that allows them to socialize with their own species in a more natural environment. How can the state even consider this after the Travis incident?

From my understanding Marchella has gone above and beyond on her caging and care of her animals.

I live just a mile from this place, and if any of these, so called exotic animals gets out and comes near my home, I will shot them on site, without hesitation! NO WAY these dangerous animals should ever be allowed here, let alone anywhere outside of their home in Afica etc etc. FAIR WARNING------ again, I will shoot any animal on site if they endanger my babies!

I never knew this place was there... I don't really think this location and climate are an ideal location for cheetahs to be living in..

Well, the secret at 404 Taconic Road is out. Peter and Marcella, and their two kids Christina and Peter have been outed! Who below the Merritt Parkway knew about the lion, tiger and bear? Here's a perfect case of a privileged horse family with friends and connections, so they are immune from any scrutiny. At least they thought so.

I watched the orangutans, Patrick and Brandie at "Lyingshare" Farm in their separate cages and they spent the whole time trying to get out. Poor things, it's so sad. How the heck did they end up there??

Time to get the place inspected . Open up to the "public" and let's see some photos of the animals and thier habitats. The AG needs to get an inspection team in there asap. The poor creatures do not belong on a horse farm, no matter ho much $$ the owner's have! Disgusting and probably dangerous.

http://zoologicalcenter.org/ml-temp.html This is the link to the "zoological" section of the horse farm website. Does not appear to be a non-profit zoo of any kind!!! They sell and train horses. The exotics are for what??????

I heard about it, tried to check it out, but there was nothing on their website....yet. Thanks to the diligence of Attorney General Blumenthal, more exotic animals won't have to languish in unnatural and inappropriate habitats just to fill someone's selfish desires for owning more "exotic" animals!

No, but the Bronx is close enough for anyone wanting to educate themselves about these animals and many others. More are NOT needed in the vicinity. It does not matter how good the care might allegedly be; you cannot provide sufficient room for cheetahs to run even on most backcountry properties (safety issues aside). Let them stay in their natural setting! If one is concerned about the animals, put resources into protecting them in their native environments.

More insanity by the rich and privileged! Can you imagine three cheetahs running at 60 mph straight into a brick wall?

i suppose if they could provide a better habitat for these animals then wherever they're coming from (the article didn't specify whether they were wild or captive born...) then maybe it's ok. i just hope someone is allowed to confirm the type of care they'll be receiving -- and a trust should be set up to send them to an appropriate sanctuary if proper care isn't taken. good grief -- can't these people donate to sanctuaries instead of having to 'own' everything themselves?

I've heard thru the zoological grapevine that the wild predators were acquired to "dispose of" (feed on) the unsellable, old, or just "under par" horses...For a price people can witness the carnage...Kinda like a Roman Coliseum in back Greenwich, and way more profitable than the glue factory...

This is Lionshare's response to AG (from their website):"Lionshare Farm and its affiliates are aware of recent allegations by the Attorney General Blumenthal’s office, which have been then repeated by various news agencies, alleging that a “lion, tiger, hyenas and a bear” reside on Lionshare property. This statement is inaccurate. The property does not now and never has housed any lions, tigers or bears. The property is home to two hyenas. All exotic animals on the property are securely housed within the accredited private zoo. In addition, the property, which is located in a rural area, miles from the nearest school, and encompasses approximately 50 acres, employs highly trained zookeepers, vet-tech and an on-site general curator. The zookeepers, vet-tech and general curator have many years of experience handling the species currently on the property, as well as other animals. As with any zoo, the proper permits and licenses are maintained and the property is subject to inspection and approval by state regulators. The Zoo engages in educational programs with accredited institutions and nonprofit organizations. It currently provides private tours by appointment to individuals and formal internships for university students. The Zoo is in the process of expanding its educational programs to benefit the local population by providing a safe and appropriate environment to learn about rare, threatened and endangered species." What I find strange is their statement "All exotic animals on the property are securely housed within the accredited private zoo" If it's true they only have 2 hyenas then why say ALL exotic animals and make reference to a ZOO?
