CT-Gov: Rell Won't Run Again

Full story: voices.washingtonpost.com

Connecticut Gov. Jodi Rell (R) has decided against running for re-election, a decision that immediately turns the Nutmeg State into one of Democrats best pickup opportunities nationally. Rell, who took over in July 2004 from scandal-plagued governor John Rowland (R), had been milling whether or not to run for months. ...

"...one of Democrats best pickup opportunities nationally."

hmmm, the new jersey and virginia republican wins were dismissed by the democrats as "local" elections.

it's different because the story is from the Washington Post and not FOX.

FOX hardly covered Gov. Rell. She's not in their stable of Republicans.

I think you misunderstood. There is a difference between "picking up" a governor's race, and the results reflecting a position on Obama.

If that's the case (I don't watch FOX) perhaps it's because she's a RINO. For example, she made the appropriate conservative noises about the last outrageous budget submitted by the Democrat legislation, but then capitulated and signed it into law.

The fact that her latest approval rating in deep blue Connecticut is 64% should give you a hint of her politics.

you know he was talking about the two conservative successes in New Jersey and Virginal vs their lavish comments about (Best Pickup Opportunities). Where were their best pickup opportunities with Virginia and New Jersey where the point spread and independents did a 0ne eighty.

Connecticut is suffering, taxes are HIGH, the people are restless in that deep blue state.

Another state to watch, ditto senate seat.

Dodd's favorability numbers are not good. The people are fed up.

If Dodd chooses to run, he will still get re-elected, although it will be closer than ever. With over 50,000 state employees and countless more municipal employees, and untold thousands of state and municipal retirees on pensions, the fix is in folks.

And when a Democrat is elected governor in 2010, kiss your wallets goodbye.

You're right. We have:
-the highest ratio of government employees to civilian employees in the nation
-the lowest ratio of job creation figures in the nation for the past 20 years
-a veto-proof Democrat legislature
-sales tax receipts falling at an alarming rate
-a miserable outlook for recovery because businesses won't relocate here
-an exodus of young talent
-Democrat ordered electric deregulation caused a massive spike in rates to give us one of the highest rates in the country

It goes on and on, but the idiot voters continue to re-elect Democrats. Go figure.

I presume that what you call a RINO is actually a lying neo-conservative, or a Satanist 'religious rightist.'

Gov. Rell is a true Republican, and her reluctance to run is probably due to people like you in her own party; dragging our country ever closer to Fascism.

How sad for the Great, Grand Old Party...killed by a political cancer.

If you didn;t know it, you are supporting the "Red States." They get money from the Federal Government that comes from NY, CT, CA, NJ, &c.

You should read Sen. Pat Moynihan's report, I promise that you will be shocked:

Dodd is done in CT he can retire to his little cottage in Ireland. He is an embarrasment to this state. His buddies that surported him in western Ct are going to turn on him finally. As for the governer its been a long time since we have had a dem for governer. The secretary of state will be running for govener. I wont be voting for her and its not just because she is a dem.

The only reason ther has been a Republican governor in Connecticut is because the independent lieutenant governor ran after an independent governor (former liberal "maverick" Republican senator Wieker who Lieberman knocked out of the Senate) declined to run and then the liberals voted for both the independent and the Democrat splitting the vote.

The current Republican governor signed bills for civil unions and funding stem cell research among other ultra conservative taboo issues. No other state office is held by a Republican.

That's what makes Connecticut different. Its not all a conspiracy by the "drive by media" to spin the story as you so quickly assume. The story was as the situation actually is.

The fact is she did NOT sign the Democtaric legislature's budget bill into law.
It was a "pocket veto."
She opposed the budget - but, rather than actually vetoing it - she refused to sign it - and allowed it to become law as a result of her inaction.
